2、 English lesson complaining I would rather have a nice sleep or study my major courses. Such phenomena will certainly affect the overal quality of students.So I would like research this problem and try to find out some causes and make some suggestions.2.Data collectedThe data here are from direct di

3、scussions with my classmates.15 students have participated in total.Question 1 : Do you think english is important to you now and in the future?14 out of 15 agreed that Enlish is very important and should make effort on it.Question 2 : Have you ever been absent from english lessons on purpose?15 out

4、 of 15 hav been absent from Enlish lessons deliberately.Question 3 : What lessons do you often failed to attend?2 out of 15 would chose english as the first choice of being absent.Others choose courses such as “Theory of DengXiaoPing” or “Theory of MaoZeDong” as their “favourite choice of absense” .

5、And half of them are apt to be absent when lured by computer games or staying in bed.Question 4 :How do you think of current english teaching in SJTU ?Only 2 rated their english lessons “ Good”7 rated their english lessons “So so”.Most of them say their english teacher works earnestly and tried to i

6、mprove their enlgish.Others think their english lessons as “ Unsatifactory”.Most of them complains that they dont feel enlish lessons attractive except those “ movie lessons”.Question 5 : Do you think english teaching here need some major improvements?Why?11 out of 15 think there should be some chan

7、ges made to current english teaching.3. Analysis.From question 1 we can see that most students know that english is an course which worths 4 credits.It is not only practicle but also essential.We all know that lots of large companies are criticle of interviewees english ability and studying abroad a

8、lso requires good TOEFL and GRE scores.So we may say that students do have enough motivation to learn enlgish.It is apparent that english lessons should be treated as “ High priority courses ” by students. But this is ambivalent to the situation now.Question4 might just indicated an reason:Students

9、lose confidence in the lessons.待添加的隐藏文字内容2Some say they dont learn much from those lessons which can only make them bored.Some say they tried to be active in lessons but felt the ambience was lifeless. Some of my classmates even told me that they prefer watching foreign movies for english learning t

10、o taking lessons. Here is where the problem lies: Students feel english lessons is not appealing to them. So they lost attention and have poor learning effeciency in class.As a result they felt they learned little in class and became more disappointed.This is a vicious circle. Besides,courses of maj

11、or are usually drawing lots of concern so students at last lost focus on english. When asked about question5 many classmates do show a desire of having a nice english learning experience.It will be helpful if english teachers can take advices from students and make certern adjustments. 4.Conclusion

12、and suggetions.From the analysis,we can see that students are willing to learn.And the current lesson have some modifications.If the lessons can be more appealing , most students would take it very seriously and earnestly.Based on the discussion,these are the suggestions the might help. 1.More cours

13、e choices are needed to meet various needs.Each course may have a emphases like translation,talking etc. according to the teachers strong point for students to choose.2.The teaching material: quite some students prefer imported books than the “College english” in the aspect of languige learning rath

14、er than coping with the CET 4 or CET 6.They think imported books are more “native”.3.Discussions are needed.The topic should be close to our interest such as an social affair.Traditional topics like “ why the writer write this here” are often regarded as “disgusting”.4.Easy atmosphere in lessons make people talk & think actively .( My personal feeling:“Answer to get credits” is not very effective. ) 5.Language culture should be emphasized.Some students believe this is very critical in learning a language.Hope these suggestions could help.
