1、The Art of English TeachingThe art of English Teaching refers to that teachers master various skills to develop their classes effectively and make the classes as interesting as possible. That is to say, on the basis of educational theories, subject knowledge, educational psychology and other related

2、 theories and proficient in teaching techniques, teachers develop their own teaching styles and use distinctive ways to carry out teaching. It will distinguish themselves from the common ones and help to achieve their teaching goals. For example, an artistic teacher will manage to turn boring learni

3、ng into lively and creative studying by several teaching activities, such as group discussion, role-playing (Yang & Xiao, 2003).There are four main features of English teaching as an art. First, science is the foundation of the art of English teaching. It means that English teaching should accord wi

4、th educational theories and reflect their guiding. For example, teachers should be proficient in the knowledge of English on its structure, content, teaching techniques and educational psychology. In addition, the accuracy of teaching content reflects its science, which will be good for the understa

5、nding of students. Second, practice is the soul of the art of English teaching. Only by practice can English teaching prove its existence and values. Though a teacher is proficient in professional knowledge, he wont master the true art of English teaching without enough practice. With practice, he c

6、an put his theories into real life practice and then evaluate different ways to deal with different situations gradually. Third, English teaching should be creative enough to draw students interest and inspire their initiatives. To be creative, teachers should go off the beaten track and try some ne

7、w special ways to stimulate students to work hard in English. For instance, the appropriate dresses and high spirits of teachers will directly influence the art on teaching. Finally, the art of English teaching is aesthetic. Teachers pursue the beauty of appearance, language, blackboard-writing, whi

8、ch will show the amazing charisma of teaching. Whats more, the binding of teachers erudition and their manners of teaching will attract students and contribute to a high quality effect (Yang & Xiao, 2003).During my internship in the school, I got some observations on teaching methods and classroom m

9、anagement. For teaching methods, I benefited a lot and learned some skills and details for teaching. First, before learning a new unit, the teachers would teach students the new words first. They taught students to pronounce the new words and phrases twice and then explained the meaning of them by u

10、sing related words or examples related to real life. Second, it was necessary and important for teachers to walk around the class when students were doing exercises. Walking around the class, teachers could make sure that every student focuses on the exercise rather than sleep in the class or stare

11、blankly. Therefore, absent-minded students would try their best to do exercises under the monitoring of teacher, which would be good for their study in some extent. Third, teachers should be good prompters when students were not ready for the answers. For example, when doing exercise of filling in t

12、he blanks about text reading, the student didnt know which word he should use, then the teacher helped him understand the text and guided him to the right answer. Finally, when the teacher checked out the answers of exercises, he wrote them down on the blackboard. It may be a waste of time, but it w

13、as necessary for teachers as some students didnt know how to write the words or couldnt catch the long sentences.For classroom management, I concluded some methods from all the classes I observed. When some students talked loudly in the class and disturbed the order of class, teachers stopped teachi

14、ng and said nothing, staring at those students. Then those students realized their fault and stopped talking. Therefore, the class was in good order again. Besides, teachers would ask those students to stand outside the classroom and they would stop talking immediately. Whats more, teachers would as

15、k those students who were absent-minded or slept in the class to answer a question. In this way, students who failed to answer would begin to listen to the teacher carefully. More importantly, teachers should admit their errors when making mistakes in the class. If they tried to cover their mistakes

16、, it would cause students misunderstanding of grammar.Although I benefited from their teaching, I found there were some weaknesses in their teaching. It was so boring for teachers to comment on the exercise the whole class, which consequently distracted students attention. It was undoubted that thos

17、e indisciplined students had disturbed others when teachers just ignored their disorder. In addition, it is hard for teachers to use several different teaching methods in real teaching on one class, because many middle schools just aim to finish the courses and contents related to students entrance

18、examination for college.It is hard for us to be teachers, but it is even harder for us to be excellent teachers.
