1、Teaching in joy and encouraging by interestsAbstract: At present, there are a lot of difficulties in junior middle school English teaching, and the polarization situation among the students is very great. Students are easy to lose interests to English. So if teachers want to achieve good results in

2、teaching, they should find every possible way to stimulate students English learning interests. Let students change the bitter learning experience into a happy one. How to stimulate students English learning interests and what effective activities should be used? This paper makes analysis about this

3、 matter hoping that my crude remarks may draw forth by abler people.Key words: interests, stimulate interests, activityPiaget, the famous psychologist once said that: “All intellectual work depends on ones interest.” For a student, the interest directly affects the study result. The producing and en

4、hancing of the interests are depending on the teachers stimulation and culturing. To the English teaching situation now, few students regard English learning as a happy experience, and they often feel tired in class. At that time, teachers should use all kinds of teaching methods and skills to make

5、the students feel excited in class. As we all know, interest is the best teacher. When students have interests in English and have the excited and expectation about learning, they would form a kind of inner demands and strong motivation to control the knowledge. Speaking from the perspective of teac

6、hing, if teachers want to achieve good results in teaching, they should find every possible way to stimulate students English learning interests, and arouse students learning awareness. Through the long-term English teaching process, the author finds the following activities can effectively stimulat

7、e the students English learning interests.1.Singing English songs in classEnglish songs with strong knowledge and interest can not only cause students learning interests but also be conducive to the right hemisphere of the brains development, so that the memory is increased greatly. Selecting some b

8、eautiful and joyful songs in teaching can attract and touch the students so that students turn to be emotional and get the enjoyment of beauty. These songs closely integrate with the teaching materials and life to achieve the entertaining teaching purposes. Before teaching “Go for it Book I (1)Unit

9、8 When is your birthday?”, the author learned through an investigation that it was just a boys birthday, so the author prepared a small gift and walked to that student and said:Today is your birthday. Happy Birthday to you ! Heres a present for you. He was very pleased and said:Thank you. At the sam

10、e time, the whole class sang the song “Happy birthday to you!”, and created a warm atmosphere and inspired students English learning passion. Then the teacher slowly started to teach the text to get twice the result with half the effort. We also use some of our synchronous teaching songs. For exampl

11、e, when teaching the numbers or other nouns, I will teach them “Ten little Indian boys”. When teaching the colors, I will let them enjoy and learn “The song of colors”; when teaching the Present Continuous Tense, I will let them enjoy and learn “Are you sleeping?” When teaching Go for it Book I (1)

12、Unit 3 What are you doing for vacation? I will let them enjoy and learn “Take a trip” and other songs.Sometimes, if necessary, teachers can also edit songs using the learned patterns and vocabulary. These songs always show in the form of nursery rhyme and childrens songs. They are very easy to be ac

13、ceptable by students. When I teach the Alternative Questions: “Which do you like better?” I adopt the childrens song two tigers”. I change the Chinese version into the English version to enable students to sing with me: “Which do you like better? Which do you like better, basketball or football? ”Mo

14、st students are familiar with this song. As soon as I sing it, they became excited. Later, I use some words to replace and the students still can sing all out. The effect is very good.Besides, teachers can also teach some of the English songs both popular at home and abroad which are deeply loved by

15、 the students. Such as: “ My Heart will Go On, Say You, Say Me, Yesterday Once More” etc. Before Christmas, teachers can teach students to sing Christmas song so that they can understand the customs of foreign countries, and it is conducive to cultivate the students English learning interest. These

16、songs can not only stimulate students interests to learn, but also expand the vocabulary and foster their language rhythm sense. At the same time, it is greatly helpful to the teaching efficiency and students physical and mental growth.2. Drawing the Stick Figures on the blackboardThe Stick Figures

17、own the features of Intuitive, iconicity and funny. Flexibly using of Stick Figures in teaching is not only conducive to the students understanding and memorizing, but also can add the fun in the classroom so that students can learn English in the pleasant atmosphere. When learning “Go for it Book I

18、 (1) Unit 2 Is this your pencil?” teachers can make use of Stick Figures to draw the outline of the pencil, eraser, computer, and other items. In the studying of “Unit 4 Wheres my backpack?” they can successfully use Stick Figures to complete the teaching of the prepositions such as “in, on, under e

19、tc.” In the learning of “ Go for it Book Unit 4 I want to be an actor” , teachers can also make use of the Stick Figures to show the doctor, reporter, policeman, and other professional occupations out to students. Stick Figures teaching method is the one whose silence speaks better than sounds. The

20、students know, understand and use the knowledge easily and it enables students to feel that English is so interesting!3. Using E-media to stimulate interestsE-media gathers the voice, video, animation, text, and other functions together, so that students and teachers can directly hear the sounds, se

21、e the images, and feel the situations. These contents have the characteristics of direct to watch and easy to understand. That meets the middle school students psychological characteristics much. Using the E-media timely and appropriately can not only help students to understand the content, but als

22、o is helpful to stimulate students interests. For example, when teaching How do you make a banana milk shake?, due to certain conditions restrictions, teachers can not produce the making of Pizza by live performances, then the use of multi-media can reach good results. At the same time, the use of m

23、ultimedia can help students understand the Western culture more effectively.4. Performing the text with short playEnglish teaching is more a process of students knowledge and skills formation than students understanding. The short plays not only practice the students expressing skills but also are c

24、onducive to the overall development of the students quality. So it is an effective method to stimulate students English interests by perform the short plays in class.Junior high school students are very interested in editing a short play. The usual class free talk is the embryonic of the short play

25、edited by students. There are many dialogues, which are suitable for performance in junior middle school texts. If students want to perform on the platform, they must make a fully preparation before class. In addition, the short plays are helpful to improve the performers oral English and listening

26、ability while the watching students also can deeply experience the environment used in language exchange. Before Performing, students set up a good scenario with the teacher to let students have the real feeling. For example, in the teaching of “Go for it Book Unit2 Whats the matter?”, the author le

27、t the students act the dialogue in the text. Students show very great enthusiasm and go to the platform one by one. They perform more and better, especially to the performing of headache, fever, tooth pain, stomachaches and other symptoms. They perform very successfully. By the watching, students ge

28、t a deeper understanding to the content and use of this unit. So the teaching method by entertainment has been proved.Let us take another example. After teaching “JEFC Book Unit7 The tiger and the monkey”, I require the students to rewrite the fable into a short play and assign the roles. The studen

29、t who is good at hand working make the “tiger and monkey” masks for the performing students, The student who is good at drawing draw the “tiger and monkey” Stick Figures on the blackboard. Divide the students into some groups before class begins and let each group performs freely according to the co

30、ntents of the text. And in class let some groups show on the platform and then choose the excellent groups. Of course, the students are the judges. In the performing class, the little performers show with great effort and the watching students give a proper mark to them according to the natural and

31、fluency of their actions and expression while watching. The class atmosphere is very active and there is non-stopping applause. To the students whose marks are not so good, the teacher should use a encouraging and trusting attitude, and there may appear the “Pygmalion Effect” to extend the students

32、English learning interests, and shorten desistence between the teachers and students.5. Using the “little” journalists interviewsLittle journalists interviews are diverse in the form. It may be taken between two persons or more, and in the form of face-to-face. During the interview activities, stude

33、nts not only improve the listening and speaking abilities, but also improve writing abilities by writing the statements report after the interview. For example, when learning “Go for it Book Unit 9 When was he born?”, I ask students to act as the journalists and interview their friends and learn the

In the interviewing activity, every student is jubilant and very active. Their faces fill with the joy of

37、 success. They will find that English is such a funny lesson!6. Using games to achieve the entertainment teachingInterests are the pilot of study. No matter that the students are, even the mentally handicapped children, they can play very excellently in the game. Intensive practicing using games can

38、 stimulate the students participant awareness, so the students can study in the playing and learn in the fun. The usual forms of the games contains: (1)Guess: Practicing new sentence patterns and words. Such as: the teacher holds a bag and asks: Whats this? Students can say: Is it a? This practices

39、“Is it a”sentence and the word. (2)Friends together: Practicing words, letter classifying and sentence forming. (3)Listen and draw: Practicing listening by let students listen to recordings and drawing pain. (4)Acting: Practicing all kinds of dialogues. These game practicing is suitable for the char

40、acteristics of the students at this age, and create a harmonious atmosphere in the classroom.For another example, when teaching some important sentences, teachers can use a game called “Copying . Let the first student in every group read the original sentence, and then tell the next student quietly,

41、 followed one-by-one in this manner and the last student writes what he has heard on the blackboard. The teacher chooses the best group according to the answers on the blackboard. When playing this game, students listen and speak very carefully so the patterns needed to be learned would be learned b

42、y heart profoundly. We may see that a reasonable selection of the game is quite a good way for teaching aids, and the games closely combined with the knowledge can not only stimulate the students learning interests, but also practice the students reflection capacity.7. Making an English duty reports

43、 on the platformThe first 3 minutes in every class is our English duty reports time. Students can recite a paragraph in the text, tell a small joke in English, tell a little riddle or sing an English song etc. to complete the duty report. The author also designs a small English game, answering the j

44、ournalists, the student who is on duty is the “spokesman” while the other students are “little journalists”. The little journalists ask serials of questions to the spokesman about the contents learned in the last lesson or before as well as the oral practice. The spokesman answers in English. As a r

45、esult, a strong English classroom atmosphere is created. It plays a warm-up role, and arouses the students English learning interest.In a word, there are a lot of activities to stimulate the students English learning interests. Stimulating interests is the need to promote the development of thinking
