This paper, by discussing the background of the new standard English (NSE) and the reasons for developing students EQ in the senior

5、 English teaching under NSE, mainly deals with the EQ factors - anxiety, motivation, inhibition, self-esteem, empathy, classroom transactions and cross-culture process, and further explore ways to improve the English teaching in order to improve the efficiency of both English teaching and learning.K

Just alike a pool without water cant be called a pool, education without affection or without love, it cannot be called education. It is true that affection is the basic of ones personality and t

8、he catalyst of will power. Nothing but emotion can impress people with unimaginable power. Since the curriculum reformation was put forward, there has been a lot of discussion about the teaching of the new standard English (NSE), and under this theory, several different versions of the new standard

9、English textbooks spring up and there is one point that all the textbooks share, which is the emphasis on the students full development from morality, intelligence, physical condition, art finery and so forth, especially the emphasis on the students EQ development. It seems that English teaching has

10、 nothing to do with the EQ development, however, there are a lot of EQ factors which are embodied in the English teaching material that it is a new challenge for the English teachers to carry out the NSE and try hard to combine the material with affection so as to develop students EQ and pave them a

11、 better way for students future development. 2 Emotion Quotient (EQ)2.1、 Definition of EQEQ is the abbreviation for Emotional Quotient, which is also to weigh a persons ability to control his or her emotion, it is a kind of intelligence which is related to the emotion.According to Gremy, an American

12、 psychologist, EQ includes five aspects, which can be listed as the following: the ability to understand ones emotion, the ability to regulate or adjust ones emotion, the ability to enforce self-encouragement, the ability to perceive others emotion, the ability to communicate with others. Whats more

13、, in 1996, two American Psychologists gave a more complete and systematic description on the connotation of EQ, that is, the ability to perceive, appreciate and express emotion, the ability to boost thinking about emotion, the ability to understand and experience emotion, the ability to adjust emoti

14、on so as to boost mental development.It can be concluded from the above that EQ is arose from the affection or emotion and it will activate and enhance the possibility of ones mental development in a benign direction. It is a kind of quality about ones emotion which is included in the psychology qua

15、lity. It is believed that a person success mostly depends on his or her EQ, about 80%, while the IQ only takes up about 20%.Consequently, EQ is a prerequisite to a persons success, It is significant and imperative to enforce the development of students EQ in the quality-oriented education2.2.1 The n

16、ecessity of EQ developing For a very long period, the intelligence education has been in the dominant place in our education system, which makes education to be just a means of transmitting knowledge and developing intelligence. However, it neglects the cultivation of some EQ factors such as the aff

17、ection, the value judgment, the personality, the communication, this misplay of education can lead to a series of problems such as individual misbehavior, taking drugs, alcholistic, violence, crime, suicide. From this point of view, whether the EQ education is systematic or not is of great importanc

18、e with the overall national quality, and has something to do with the individuals future adaptation to the society and the development in the more and more competitive world. As a result, it is very necessary and great urgent to carry out the EQ education in a more purposeful and orderly way so that

19、 students can not only apply their knowledge and skills in the society practice or communication, but also foster a reasonable sense of personality, good adaptivity and strong responsibility.2.2.2 The importance of EQ in English teaching One of the main points of the NSE is to develop students affec

20、tion and attitude, and combine the affection with the English teaching. The course of teaching is a course that both teachers and students communicate with each other with the affection from their bottom of heart, and it is also a special cognitive course, and this specialty can be embodied on the a

21、ffection. Without the support of affection, it is difficult for the rational things to find a material carrier (the carrier refers to a kind of means that can embody the rational things.). However, the teachers devotion with affection can get a surprising result. No matter how vivid or how wonderful

22、 the lessons the teacher gives, what the students can get is just the knowledge which they can cognize, but they can not feel a kind of sense of agreement. Only when the teacher gives lessons with true heart and true feelings from their bottom of heart can the students be moved and be taken by the t

23、eacher and can they resonate with the teacher, and in this way, students would gradually trust the teacher and believe in what the teacher say and do, and at this time, the teacher becomes a good example of the students. Meanwhile, according to a psychological study, with the teachers appropriate af

24、fection, the students can achieve greater success in gaining knowledge, and their cognition ability can be advanced smoothly.2.2.3 The reasons for EQ development in English teaching One of the important functions of language is to enhance communication, so affection is inevitably in the interpersona

25、l communication. However, affection, to a greater extent, must be expressed and transmitted through language, if the language is proper or appropriate, it can enhance communication, friendship, respect of each other.The EQ has a direct or indirect influence on the language learning. the personality

26、of upward and outgoing can be helpful to encourage the students to gain more chances to study language. A strong desire, a great interest and a bold practice spirit is beneficial for students to promote study efficiency. A strong will power and more self-confidence can help students to overcome diff

27、iculties in learning language.The EQ development is a crucial aspect of the students all-round development, the EQ development can be put into the routine teaching of English and combined with detailed content.3 New Standard English (NSE)3.1 The background of NSEAs we all know, we are now stepping i

According to a series of documents of the United Nations, the basic skills for humans survival and development in the 21st century are the efficiency of the mother language, a mastery of the foreign language and the ability to operate a computer. It is said that over 85% of the

29、 academic thesis in the international world are published or professed in the English language. Moreover, almost all the main academic periodicals and journals of various subjects ate published in English. English has become a dominant universal working language in all kinds of international situati

30、ons; it is also a main applied language on Internet. Therefore, under this great trend, to reform and to reinforce the basic English education, especially the basic English teaching become more and more important. Furthermore, to cultivate some basic qualities such as the affection, the attitude and

31、 the value in English teaching becomes more necessary and crucial.3.1.1 The characteristics of NSE textbooksThe purpose for the new standard English in senior high school is not only to teach students to speak and write several sentences of a foreign language, but also to arm the students with the c

32、oncept that to learn English is a way to promote the development of affection, attitude and value, and mental state, and to promote their comprehensive qualities. The affection is of great importance to humans development. The upward and active affection and self-confidence undoubtedly can enhance s

33、tudents self-learning and can effectively promote the efficiency of learning.When we look back on the history of drawing up the English teaching programs, we can see that the new English teaching program or the teaching syllabus is summit to the rapid development of nowadays society, it not only car

34、ry forward the old experience, but also pregnant with the new ideas.As we know, the teaching program or the syllabus has very close relationship with the textbooks, the syllabus id the basis for compiling a textbook, while a textbook is usually a reflection of the syllabus. In accordance with the ne

35、w standard English, we can make a summary on its characteristics.First, the content of the textbook presses close to students life as well as to the modern social situations. It not only embodies the ideological education, but also permeates a great deal of knowledge about natural and social science

Whats more, it draws up some multi-media textbooks by using the modern technology and brings in some foreign textbooks which is to satisfy the need of some developed a

40、reas and some foreign language schools.3.1.2 Major concepts of NSEs students EQ developmentThe affective attitude in the “Standard” refers to some factors that can affect students English learning such as interest, motivation, confidence, will power and the awareness of cooperation.Interest is the b

41、est guidance, a great interest in English is the key to the successful English learner. Motivation can provide directions for students towards success in English learning. In fact, as for the inner and outer factors, the inner motivation can last long and ensure students to achieve long-term goals i

42、n language learning. Besides interest and motivation, self-confidence and will power to overcome difficulties are the other two important factors. English is different from our mother tongue; to most of the Chinese English learners, English is a brand new language in the beginning, difficulties are

Therefore, to help the students to build up the confidence that “ I can learn English well” and to foster the students will power to overcome difficulties is essential for the English teachers.Nowadays, competition and cooperation are standing in a line in every corner of the society, cu

45、s to the English teacherIn order to know more about students affective attitude and help them to cultivate the positive spirit and overcome the negative mental statement, teachers should, first of all, build up a good relationship with students, as only in this way can a teacher really gets to know

Besides, teachers should try to create an environment that enables the students to build up a harmonious democratic collective.( it refers to the environment which all the stude
