1、Recipe for Tortillas Ingredients:1B cups (180 grams) Wel-Plan Baking MixH teaspoon dry taco seasoning mix1 teaspoon salt2 tablespoons vegetable oil6-7 tablespoons water with a scant drop yellow food coloringDirections:1. Stir together Baking Mix, taco seasoning and salt in a bowl.2. Dribble oil over

2、 dry ingredients and mix with a fork.3. Add colored water, 1 T at a time, continuing to mix with a fork.4. Dough will look a little dry, but pick it up with hands and work in the drier portion, kneading to form a smooth ball.5. Dough should feel a little moist, but not at all sticky.6. Cut dough int

3、o 9 pieces (about 30 grams each).7. Shape pieces into small balls and press with hands into small flat discs. Or use a tortilla press.8. Pressing firmly, roll each disc on a Baking Mix-dusted surface or wax paper, into a 5-6 inch circle (dough will be thin, but flexible and not fragile).9. Cut off a

4、ny ragged edges with a sharp knife.10. Stack tortillas with a piece of wax paper between each one.11. Heat a skillet to high (do not grease).12. Cook each tortilla 30 seconds on each side.13. After cooking each tortilla, keep the tortilla stack covered with a towel or plastic wrap so they do not dry

5、 out.14. Rewarm either on a hot ungreased skillet, wrapped in foil in the oven or in a microwave oven. Freeze unbaked with wax paper between tortillas.Yield: 9 tortillas1 tortilla = trace of phe 9 tortillas=8 mg phe= 1 exchange*For a dessert, spread tortilla with softened margarine, sprinkle with ci

20、head of time avoids what could be an embarrassingly long time of indecision. In clinic we visited a vending machine to do some planning ahead about what would be appropriate food choices. We reviewed fast food menu choices so a prompt and responsible decision could be made.If you find your teenager

21、choosing foods that are quite high in phe when he or she is out, take some time to consider what went into that food choice. Lets say he or she ate a “Big Grab” size bag of corn chips. Consider what prompted this action. Was it poor judgement? “I didnt think about needing to save some phe for dinner

22、.”Was it lack of knowledge? “I didnt realize this kind of chip was so high. I know that Bugles are made out of corn and these are too, so I thought theyd be OK.”Was it peer pressure “Everyone bought a soda and a snack, so I did to.”Was it hunger? “Mom, I was starving after play practice”Was it stres

23、s? “Mom, I was so worried about getting my lines right I just had to eat something!”If you can get to the reason it will be easier to figure out a solution. The solution will be very different if your child simply needs to be informed rather than if he or she needs strategies for dealing with stress

24、.Use dietary indiscretions as an opportunity to learn, not as an opportunity to yell, belittle, or lay on the guilt.The book, Why Cant I Eat That! Helping Kids Obey Medical Diets by John F. Taylor and R. Sharon Latta is filled with ideas for you to try while you exercise great patience. Parenting is an intellectual, emotional, and often moral challenge. Take time to think through your unique situation and the options that present themselves. Find resources and friends to support you in this task.
