2、d of the Loch Ness Monster 尼斯湖怪兽. Shes famous for . being spotted被发现. There she is ! Where? There! The Loch Ness Monster is so famous shes even got her own nickname绰号. They call her Nessie. Niessie, the Loch Ness Monster. Ive got a nichname too. Nessie calls me the Luckless Monster. She calls me Luc
3、kless because i never seem to have any luck at all我好像从来就没有走运过, but Luckless isnt my real name. My real name is Flossie. This is where we live. Its a bit wild有点荒凉. a bit windy风有点大. a bit wet雨水有点多, but it is home to us. I love it here. But it can be lonely孤独. I belong to the same family as Nessie我和尼斯属
4、于同一个家族. I live in the same loch湖 as Nessie. I swim in the same water. I hunt for猎食 the same fish. But we do确实 have our differences. For instance例如, the Loch Ness Monster is huge and scary吓人. But im a bit on the small side有点小了. Sometimes Nessie calls me Titch小矬子 or Shrimp小虾米. The Loch Ness Monster sw
5、ims down to the dark depths深处 of the loch. But im a bit scared of害怕 the dark. Sometimes Nessie calls me Scaredy Cat老鼠胆. The Loch Ness Monster swims swift and sure又快又稳. But i am not all that keen on不那么喜欢 water. I dont like the high waves大浪. I dont like the deep pools and a HATE the whirlpool漩涡. This
6、is the whirlpool. It goes round and round转呀转 and round, and whatever is in the whirlpool goes round and round with it. Nessie LOVES it. wheee!咦 she yells. Yeeeeeeeeeeh!耶 she yells and come and have a go来试一试 if you think youre brave enough! i had a go once. I HATED it . The water went up my nose进到我鼻子
7、里, i couldnt see anything and i felt dizzy and sick头晕恶心. youre scared! Nessie teased取笑道, youre frightened! but i wasnt frightened. I was TERRIFIED吓死了! Nessie called me a landlubber旱鸭子, a chicken草鸡. Nessie calls me lots of names用许多难听的话骂我: Titch! Scaredy cat! Cry baby! To tell you the truth,说实话 Nessie
8、 is a bit of a bully有点欺负人. But nothing Nessie can do would make me 但是不管尼斯做什么，都不能让我get back in that whirlpool again. Never!绝不2 No one cares about 关心YOU! You probably know that the Loch Nessie Monster(or Nessie for short简称 ) is good at hiding. We monsters have learned the art of camouflage伪装术. This me

If someone spots Nessie, she changes. “there she is!” oh, its just a rock. there!there ! there!its just an upturned boat.一条底朝天的船 People who make films拍电影, and people who write for 为.写文章newspapers and magazines, are alw
10、ays trying to spot目睹 Nessie. They want to take her photo拍到她的照片. They want to make a film about her. They want her to be in their newspapers or magazines上他们的报纸. Shes famous. Shes a celebrity名人. Everyone tries to spot Nessie. But nobody has ever tried to spot me . I WANT to be spotted. I want to be no
11、ticed被人注意到. I want to be made a fuss of受到大肆渲染. But on matter what i do, nobody notices me at all . Thats why Nessie calls me the Luckless Monster. no one konws you exist存在. No one cares if 没人在乎you exist! she says. na na na na na na Nessie sings. No one tries to take photos of you! No one talks about
12、 you. No one cares about you at all. it is true. I dont have any real friends. There is Nessie of course- but she only talks to me when she feels like it. She only plays with me when she feels like想/高兴 playing. So i am lonely, and that is why i think Nessie is right when she calls me the Luckless Mo
13、nster. 3 How do you find a friend? One day, i woke up and i said to myself, enough is enough受够了. Today is the day i will find a real friend, a good friend. Nessie doesnt care if she has a friend, but i do. i want someone who cares for喜欢 me. I want someone who can see the real me. But how do you find
14、 a friend? What exactly究竟 is a friend? I thought about this for a long,long time. I even asked Nessie. what exactly is a friend? i asked. a friend is someone whi is like you, just like you, she said. but on one is like us, so we Cant have friends. Better just to settle for scaring people.最好是吓唬吓唬人就算了
15、 then she gave a roar大吼一声 that sent me skittering away吓得我撒腿就跑. It works for me这对我管用, she grinned咧嘴笑道. i love scaring people! but i didnt give up放弃. I was determined to下定决心这么说 find a friend. I asked all the animals i met, please be my friend. this is what they said: Miaou喵! No! You are too wet. Go aw
16、ay滚开! no, you are too big. buzz off!一边嗡嗡去 i dont give a hoot!我才不管 moo.ve一边哞去! hop it!跳开 leg it !leg it 走开! they thought i was too big, too wet, too scary looking样子太吓人 and too fishy smelling鱼腥味太大. Then i asked some children and this is what they said: we saw a MONSTER. A big horrible 可怕的monster! aghh
17、! Waaa! Aaffhh! The grown ups大人们 said, dont be silly别犯傻了. There are no such things as哪有什么 monsters. Thats just a shadow影子. Come along, now走了，现在走了. Hurry up. people were either scared of me- or they didnt believe in me不相信我存在. It was hopeless没辙了. So i sulked生闷气. Im very good at sulking. I can do it fo
18、r ages我可以生好半天闷气. I stayed perfectly still保持纹丝不动, crossed my arms双臂交叉, drooped my bottom lip耷拉着下嘴唇 and got ready for a HUGE sulk生一场大闷气. I was just getting into it正要开始生气的时候. When i heard a noise. A group os children were going up to走到跟前 a little girl. They were saying things that sounded very familiar
19、 to me熟悉. Titch! Four eyes scaredy cat cry baby The girl was crying and she was wearing glasses- but not for long时间不长. The other children took 抢走了her glasses and started to pass them to each other相互传来传去. here, catch接住! Each time she tried to grab them back夺回来 they threw them to someone slse. They we
20、re throwing faster and faster and harder and harder越来越使劲 until- SPLASH噗啦! The glasses landed in the water掉进水里. They were light and plastic塑料的. So they bobbed about on the surface在水面上下摇动. Then they drifted in little circles打着小圈漂流着. The girl cried, oh, no! some of the children said, ha, ha! some said,
21、 oh, no哎呀, sorry. Then all of the children went away跑了, except for除了 the girl, who stood peering at 站在那凝视着her glasses in the water. First she tried reaching for 伸手去够them, but they were too far out.太远了 Then she tried to hook钩them with a branch树枝, but that didnt work不管用. The glasses drifted further an
22、d further out漂的越来越远. Then the girl took a deep breath, and waded in after 蹚进水里追them. They were going towards the whirlpool. Thats when she should have given up- but on she went 但是她继续and . You can guess what happened next. Aaaagh! screamed尖叫起来 the girl as she slipped滑到了 and her head went under the wa
23、ter沉入水里. AAAGH！ she cried out again, and down she went for the second time. Well, i had no choice别无选择. A monsters got to do what a monsters got to do! I grabbed her and kept her head out of the water. Then off we went然后我们就转开了. First we swirled转起来, then we whirled旋起来. Then we swooshed and we whooshed
24、我们嗖嗖地，呜呜地顺流而下. Funnily enough好笑地是, after a while. We almost started to enjoy it. At last we landed in a soggy heap靠岸了，摞成了湿漉漉一个堆. We were out of breath上气不接下气 but safe and sound 安然无恙and the girl was still holding onto抓着 her glasses. She put her glasses on and peered at me, it must have been the first
25、time she had seen me clearly and she looked a little surprised. i know i look a little bit . Different, i apologised抱歉. thats what people say about me! she said. they think i am different! is that why those children were calling you names骂你难听的话? i asked. She nodded点点头. i get called some of those sam
26、e names,被人用一些那样的话骂 i said, sadly. My real name is Flossie, i told her. my real name is Fran, she said. Then she smiled a little smile 微微笑了一下and said, we should be friends, will you你愿意. be my friend? but im too big, im too wet, im too weedy软弱, i said, im difference, too. were both different, Fran sai
27、d. so, in a way从某方面来说 . Were both the same!she went on, i like you. Youre kind and youre friendly. Thats what makes a friend 这就是做朋友的条件for me. so we decided to be friends. 4 Can you see me? Just then, the other children came rushing up to冲过来 Fran. Quick as quick霎那间, i made myself look like a very han
28、dsome tree一个美观的树. Well, i dont want them screaming and running away or calling me names, do i ? The other children ran up to my new friend. youre so brave真勇敢. It was lucky幸亏 you grabbed hold of抓住了 that log. So clever. Sometimes i can hide myself just too well把自己伪装的太好了. But i dont mind. Now, Fran and
29、 i often play together. We swim. We play tig and tag玩捉人游戏 and hide and seek捉迷藏 and skipping跳绳 and football. I help her- and she helps me. Yes , shes taught me to look at things differently. Fran has lots of friends now but shes still my friend too. Im often around我经常在旁边. But not everyone can spot me. It takes a real friend to see me. Can you?
