Before I give my arguments, I will give one rebuttals in response to the opening house. Patients conscious decisions are not necessarily rational and totally voluntary. The
2、 patients right of self-determination cannot be completely independent, it is always in the contact with the outside world .Once the patients have felt that they are the burden their families, or they felt they are unwelcomed, or when they felt that they were losing dignity, they may voluntarily cho
3、ose active euthanasia. In that case, euthanasia stripped out the patients right to live as the motivation of euthanasia is not to release their paints their pain, but to get rid of the family and social economic burden. It cannot ensure that their decision for euthanasia is totally voluntary. Now, I
4、ll give mainly three arguments: Firstly, we believe that legalize euthanasia violate medical ethics. Doctors duty is to save lives; therefore, all the behaviors of ending a life by a doctor should be prohibited. HuFlanderss medicine ethics provides that Even no drug can cure your patient, you should
5、 also maintain his life. “The father of medicine Hippocorates, had said in the famous the oath of medicine that: I will not give a lethal drug to anyone if I am asked, nor will I advise such a plan. So according to the medical ethics, doctors can only be a saver instead of a killer. The legalization
6、 of euthanasia would mean that the patients can not only get treatment from the doctors, but also get permission to death. In that case, doctors will play an indirect role of the death of his patient. No matter the law or social ethics are not allowed to destroy the nature of medical practice and th
7、e mission of doctors. Secondly, for terminally ill patients, legalizing euthanasia will allowed them to choose death. Then it is possible to reduce the societys psychological support toward the patients. The societys attitude towards the patients will change from: “You should be brave and fight for
8、survive” to “You are so badly ill now, why not choose euthanasia.” So if we legalize euthanasia, the negative psychological implications from the society for those people who are really struggling to survive will be a fatal blow. Many patients may not be as strong as before to face life. Therefore,
9、all those namely voluntary euthanasia will not be the real voluntary ones. Thirdly, about the feasibility, we believe that the current stage of China is not suitable for legalizing euthanasia. Legalization of euthanasia and specific conditions must be parallel. Comparing with Netherlands, the first
10、country that legalizes euthanasia, China has a more complex social background. China has more nations, and they have different ethnic value and cultural backgrounds. So there will have different requirements and different level of acceptance of euthanasia. Its difficult to have a common sense toward
11、s euthanasia in order to make euthanasia become legal rights. Besides, under Chinas undeveloped social health care system, most expenses of the treatment should be afford by the patients family, however the ability of people to afford the expense is very limited, therefore, the patient would became
12、a serious drag of their family. If euthanasia is legalized, some family members may drop the patient a hint in order to let the patient voluntarily receive euthanasia. That will bury the purpose of the patients. So under the complex social background and the undeveloped social health care system, its not suitable for China to legalize euthanasia. So, for legalizing euthanasia violate medical ethics and may reduce the psychological support for those bad ill, and the current stage of China is not suitable for legalizing euthanasia, we are proud to be opposition.
