、TheOldManandtheSea老人与海英文读后感The Old Man and the Sea The old man and the sea which was written by Ernest Hemingway who won the Nobel Prize for Literature and the Pulitzer Prize. It served to reinvigorate Hemingways literary reputation and prompted a reexamination of his entire body of work. The novella

、 was initially received with much popularity; it restored many readers confidence in Hemingways capability as an author. This book gives me a deep impression especially the description about the mans braveness and persistence. The novel tells us a story: an old man named Santiago in Cuba who was a f

、isherman. He had been fishing hard in the Gulf Stream for 84 days but got nothing. In the previous days a boy named Manolin was fallowing him as a company, but the kind boy was force to leave the old man by his parents who thought that the old man was unlucky. Santiago went fishing alone in the eigh

、ty-fifth day and got a big fish which fully has 18 foot length in the measure. However, on the way back a shark came and ate the marlin. Lastly, the marlin left only a skeleton. The book is a fable describing the unconquerable spirit of the old man-How he take in the spiritual victory from the circu

、mstance that is full of disasters. Hemingway seems to believe that there are only two options: defeat or endurance until destruction; Santiago clearly chooses the latter. His stoic determination is mythic, nearly Christ-like in proportion. He didnt give the old man the success, but fortitude and res

、ilience to face the pressure. The value of his life was completely reflected in the way he catch fish. He is the real winner in his own world. He is an ordinary fisherman, as well as a hero. And he is made out as a person of motivation, passion, and hope. Santiago was old just as Hemingway said, “Ev

、erything about him was old except his eyes and they were the same color as the sea and were cheerful and undefeated. ”He think every day is a new day. No matter how old he is. He said , “It s better to be lucky. But I would rather be exact. Then when luck comes you are ready.” He was poor; he had no

、thing except a little boat and harpoon. But he said , “Now is no time to think of what you do not have. Think of what you can do with what there is.” Santiago is a man with little direction but enough determination and experience to live. He chose not to see what others thought but lived by how he p

、erceived the world. He overcame the marlin with his constant struggles and persistent and he showed his earnest desires to live and fish. Throughout the story many aspects can be found about Santiagos personality merely in the content of his 3-day fight against the marlin. Certainly Santiago is a ma

、n of many themes and personality traits. He is respected by a young boy, Manolin, yet he is looked down upon by many of the younger fishermen in the Cuban fishing village where he lives. Some people laugh at him when he passed by, and some thought of him to be too old to be a fisherman. They didnt b

、elieve he was able to catch a fish. But he was much better and more exact than most of the other fisherman in the village. Santiago was alone. He catches fishes alone. He fights against sharks alone. He can talk to nobody except himself. No one will help him. Even though he faced hungry, weary and d

、ifficulty alone, he does not give up and never feel lonely because his willingness is so strong. And he was approached in an ideal trip. I fight you to death , a tough voice. Although he knew it was very difficult to beat the big marlin, but he still did not give up. It shows his heroism and the str

、ength of his tenacious trend. I extremely admire the fishermans willingness. He lets me understand one person certainly must have relentless spirit, only then could obtain what he wants successfully. The senior fisherman think: Here to the seacoast really was too near, perhaps could have a bigger fi

、sh in a farther place. . He had not settled to the present situation, but was approaching the bigger goal. When I read the big marlin start fast to gather round the young fishing boat hover, twined the cable on the mast, the old person right hand lifted up high the steel fork, leap the water surface

、 in it the flash, did utmost throws to its heart, one wail ended the big fishs life, it was static floats on the water surface. , I extremely admire the relentless spirit of old man. Although he knew the difficulty is very strong and hard, but he did not slightly flinch. Both Santiago and the marlin

、 display qualities of pride, honor, and bravery, and both are subject to the same eternal law: they must kill or be killed. As Santiago reflects when he watches the weary warbler fly toward shore, where it will inevitably meet the hawk, the world is filled with predators, and no living thing can esc

、ape the inevitable struggle that will lead to its death. Santiago lives according to his own observation: “man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated.” It is the most well-known sentence of this novel. These words become belief of many readers. In my opinion, the whole story

、 is about a battle between an old man and the sea, both of which are considered to have symbolic meanings according to critics. The old man once was so energetic and strong but couldnt get harvest from the sea. He used his old body and strong mind to fight against nature and challenge his fate. He g

、ot the large fish, but he lost totally because he carried back only the skeleton of the fish with his hands bleeding. However, he had done all he could to fight against all unlucky things and didnt lose his face. He behaved like a real man, a tough man. Thats whats most important in a battle. When he

、 met difficulty, he welcomes difficulty. A person shouldnt fear but accept the defeat with pleasure. I think we can study senior fishermans spirit in life and learn to be tough and brave like him when facing with hard times in our life, which is the best solution we should choose in a bad situation.

、 Sharks may be seen as a hit that made the success and happiness loss. But, as the child said, It does not beat you, it does not. We need not fear the difficulty and we should handle the matter, then we can obtain a bigger success and the victory. We will meet a lot difficulty, and what we should to is trying our best to fight against it. Perhaps we loss in the battle, but we win the spirit, the intangible thing. What is most important is not the result, but the course.
