The motorcycle is slower than the airplane. The car is slower than the motorcycle. And, my bike is slower than the car. My bike i

3、s the slowest. But, I dont care! I got a new yellow bike. And, I like it. Baby-cricket A lost baby cricket is crying. “Mom, mommy!” But all he can hear is the sound of the wind. The grass sways in the wind. The wind was creating a cloud of dust. It looks like its going to rain. Drip, drip. Its raini

4、ng from the sky. The rain has stopped. Across the grass, the baby cricket hears a familiar sound. “Oh, thats my mom!” “The baby cricket is finally with his mom.” All the insects sing a celebration song. Grandmas Gift Grandma was sitting on the sofa looking at a picture. “You see, Nana. I used to be

5、very pretty. I wasnt always gray-haired like I am now.” But Nana her cat had already fallen asleep. That night Grandma had a happy dream. “Who are you? You are my friends!” In the dream, her friends invited Grandma for dinner. “I have never seen such a long table in my life!” exclaimed Grandma. “And

6、 here are some gifts for you.” The friends gave her beautiful flowers and seed packets. Just then a strong gust of wind blew. Whizz! “Oh no! What shall I do?” Unfortunately, all the gifts were blown away. Grandma was surprised and woke up from her dream. “How disappointing! Just when I was about to

7、receive some gifts, the wind came up. I hate the wind.” The next morning, Grandma decided to go on a trip. “Its a beautiful day today! I havent been outdoors for a long time.” Grandma took Nana, her black cat, on the trip with her. Grade5 Grandma went into the forest and filled her bag with pretty f

8、lowers and seeds. “Ive been walking too long. Now my legs hurt. I need to stop here to rest for a minute.” Grandma decided to sit down on the grass. While she sat there, she made a bouquet of flowers in her bag. All of a sudden something fell in front of Grandma. It was a little bird. “My poor littl

9、e bird! Did you fall out of your nest? I am going to give you something to eat. Dont be sad.” She gave the little bird some seeds from her bag. Later, as she walked on through the forest, Grandma met a boy who lost his way. “Oh, poor little boy! Come over here. Ill build a fire and make you some sou

10、p.” The next morning, as Grandma was coming out of the forest with the boy, she saw a girl crying beside a brook. “The wind blew my flowers away,” the girl sobbed. Grandma gave the girl the bouquet from her bag. Finally Grandma reached home after her trip. “Nana, you see, now my bag is empty. But I

11、am very happy. Nothing is better than helping others.” That night, Grandma saw her friends in a dream again. All of them told her what a wonderful woman she was. They put on a wonderful party for her. Everyone was very happy. “Oh, I love it! I love it!” cried Grandma. Just then, Grandma woke up. Nan

12、a was surprised and fell off the sofa with a Thud!. “I had a dream! Such a happy dream it was!” Jack and the Beanstalk Once upon a time there was a boy called Jack. He lived with his mother. They were very poor. All they had was a cow. Once morning, Jacks mother told Jack to take their cow to market

13、 and sell her. On the way, Jack met a man. He gave Jack some magic bans for the cow. Jack took the beans and went back home. When Jacks mother saw the beans she was very angry. She threw the beans out of the window. The next morning, Jack looked out of the window. There was a giant beanstalk. He wen

14、t outside and started to climb the beanstalk. He climbed up to the sky through the clouds. Jack saw a beautiful castle. He went inside. Jack heard a voice. “Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum!” Jack ran into a cupboard. An enormous giant came into the room and sat down. On the table there was a hen and a golden harp.

15、 “Lay!” said the giant. The hen laid an egg-it was made of gold. “Sing!” said the giant. The harp began to sing. Soon the giant was asleep. Jack jumped out of the cupboard. He took the hen and the harp. Suddenly, the harp sang, “Help, master!” The giant woke up, and shouted, “Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum!” Jack

16、 ran and started climbing down the beanstalk. The giant came down after him. Jack shouted, “Mother! Help!” Jacks mother took an axe and chopped down the beanstalk. The giant fell and crashed to the ground. Nobody ever saw him again. With the golden eggs and the magic harp, Jack and his mother lived

17、happily ever Grade5 after. Little Red Riding Hood Little Red Riding Hood lived in a wood with her mother. One day Little Red Riding Hood went to see her Granny. She had a nice cake in her basket. On her way Little Red Riding Hood met a wolf. “Hello!” said the wolf. “Where are you going?” “Im going t

18、o see my grandmother. She lives in a house behind those trees.” The wolf ran to Grannys house, and ate Granny up. He got into Grannys bed. A little later, Little Red Riding Hood reached the house. She looked at the wolf. “Granny, what big eyes you have!” “All the better to see you with!” said the wo

19、lf. “Granny, what big ears you have!” “All the better to hear you with!” said the wolf. “Granny, what big nose you have!” “All the better to smell you with!” said the wolf. “Granny, what big teeth you have!” “All the better to eat you with!” shouted the wolf. A woodcutter was in the wood. He heard a

20、 loud scream, and ran to the house. The woodcutter hit the wolf over the head. The wolf opened his mouth wide and shouted-and Granny jumped out. The wolf ran away, and Little Red Riding Hood never saw the wolf again. Nono, the Invisible cat Tommy played by himself all day. Tommy seems very lonely no

21、wadays. Grandpa was worried about him. Grandpa went to the lady who lived next door. Her cat had three kittens. “I want to give Tommy a cat,” she said. The lady gave one of the kittens to Grandpa. “Tommy, I have brought you a friend.” Grandpa took the kitten out of the box. Tommy was very happy. He

22、named the kitten Nono. Tommy and Nono slept together in the same bed. Nono purred when she slept. As soon as Tommy and Nono got up, they went to the kitchen. Tommy gave her some food. She was glad and rubbed herself against Tommys leg to say thank you. Tommy took Nono wherever he went. “Nono, where

23、are you going? Come here.” She had to stay by Tommy all the time. Sometimes she wanted to live freely like stray cats. Soon Nono grew up. “Nono, I will brush your hair.” When Nono heard this, she quickly jumped off the dining table. She was big enough to do this by herself now. Tommy never left Nono

24、 alone. He would come over and suddenly give her a hug. “Nono, please dont run away. I want to play with you.” But Nono struggled to get away. Just then Grandpa called out to Tommy. “Tommy, dont bother your cat too much.” “No, Grandpa. Im just having fun with Nono.” Nono took advantage of the Grade5

25、 moment and escaped of Tommys arms. Nono hid in the attic so that Tommy couldnt find her. Up on the roof, a stray cat was drowsing. Nono envied the life of that stray cat. “Tell me, how can I live in peace like you?” Nono asked. “What are you so worried about? You can become an invisible cat,” said

26、the stray cat. “Oh, really?” “Cats can make themselves invisible whenever they want.” That evening, Tommy went looking for Nono. “Nono, where are you?” Tommy couldnt see her, but in fact she was right beside him. He couldnt find her because she had become invisible. Pretty soon Nono fell asleep. “Gr

27、andpa, I hear Nono. Its incredible! I hear her, but I cant find her anywhere,” Tommy said to Grandpa. “Cats tent to leave home. Dont worry. She will come back.” Grandpa reassured Tommy. Tommy stood at the door and waited for Nono. But Nono didnt appear for days and days. Grandpa put sad Tommy on his

28、 lap to have a talk with him. “Cats like to be free. They hide themselves when they are bothered by people,” explained Grandpa. “Did I bother Nono too much?” Tommy started to cry. Luckily Nono was beside Tommy at that moment and heard what he said. “I guess Tommy wont bother m any more from now on,”

29、 thought Nono. And so Nono became visible again. Tommy was very glad to see Nono suddenly come back. “Nono, Im sorry I was only thinking about myself. I wont bother you any more. From now on, you tell me when you want to play with me. OK?” Tommy made a solemn promise to Nono that he would not bother her any more.
