1、托福作文写作范文详解ReadingEthanolfuelmadefromplantssuchascornandsugarcanezhasbeenadvocatedbysomepeopleasanalternativetogasolineintheUnitedStates.However,manycriticsarguethatethanolisnotagoodreplacementforgasolineforseveralreasons.First,theincreaseduseofethanolfuelwouldnothelptosolveoneofthebiggestenvironment
2、alproblemscausedbygasolineuse:globalwarming.Likegasoline,ethanolreleasescarbondioxideintotheatmospherewhenitisburnedforfuelandcarbondioxideisgreenhousegas:ithelpstrapheatintheatmosphere.Thus,ethanoloffersnoenvironmentaladvantageovergasoline.Second,theproductionofsignificantamountsofethanolwoulddrama
3、ticallyreducetheamountofplantsavailableforusesotherfuel.Forexample,muchofthecornnowgrownintheUnitedStatesisusedtofeedfarmanimalssuchascowsandchickens.Itisestimatedthatifethanolwereusedtosatisfyjust10percentofthefuelneedsintheUnitedStates,morethan60percentofthecorncurrentlygrownintheunitedstatedwould
4、havetobeusedtoproduceethanol.Ifmostofthecornwereusedtoproduceethanolzasubstantialsourceoffoodforanimalswoulddisappear.Third,ethanolfuelwillneverbeabletocompetewithgasolineonprice.Althoughthepricesofethanolandgasolinefortheconsumerarecurrentlyaboutthesame,thisisonlybecauseofthehelpintheformoftaxsubsi
5、diesgiventoethanolproducersbytheUnitedStatesgovernment.ThesetaxsubsidieshavecosttheUnitedStatesgovernmentover$11billioninthepast30years.IftheUnitedStatesgovernmentweretostophelpingproducersinthiswayzthepriceofethanolwouldincreasegreatly.ListeningEthanolactuallyisagoodalternativetogasoline,althoughyo
