Make sure students know about these and then ask them to answer the questions in activity 2.Ask students to listen to

Saying what someone has said is called direct speech. Here what a person says spears within quotation marks and
37、should be word for word. Can you give me an example?S: She said, “Todays lesson is very interesting.” OR “Todays lesson is very interesting，” She said.T: Indirect speech doesnt use quotation marks and it doesnt have to be word for word. Can you give me an example?S: She said the lesson that day was
38、very interesting. T: Good. When reporting speech the tense usually changes. This is because when we use reported speech, we are usually talking about a time in the past. The verbs usually have to be in the past too. For example:Show the following. “Im going to the cinema”, he said. He said he was go
39、ing to the cinema. T: As a rule, when you report something someone has said you go back a tense. When the direct speech is in present simple, we change it into past simple in indirect speech.
