1、翻译难点动与静，概略与具体,翻译的疑点,译者不仅要处理好难点问题，还应注意处理好英汉两种语言转换时的一些突出疑点问题。翻译疑点包括（1）描述角度的问题（2）组词成句的特征。具体说来有：（1）动与静（2）概略化与具体化（3）有灵动词与无灵动词,一、动与静,先看两句子：He is a teacher of English.他教英语。英汉两种语言在表述某一动作概念时均有一个共同的特点：即既可选择静态的表述方式，也可选择动态的表述方式。,“以静表动”的方式使英语行文显得更为精练和多样化。汉语却因有多用动词的固有习惯(汉语中常常出现大量兼动式和连动式的说法)，所以重动能描写，在选择表述动作意义的方式时常
2、常是动态表述方式多于静态表述方式。,“静”与“动”的翻译,常用的方式有两种：（一）化静为动（二）化动为静（一）化静为动：指把原文的静态句式转换为动态句式，强化原文的动态色彩，使译文符合汉语的行文习惯，明白流畅。英语中的静态表述方式有无动词句，例如：Now for the discussion.现在进行讨论。So far so good.到目前为止进展不错。,特殊句式的翻译,（1）be+动词的同源名词句式:He has been the ruler of the region for as long as twenty years.他统治那个地区长达20年之久。He was a good lis
3、tener and they would like to talk with him.他能倾听别人的意见，因此他们喜欢同他谈心。Cardiovascular disease is American number one killer.在美国，死于心血管疾病的人高居榜首。,（2）“be+非动词同源名词”句式：My party was a quite affair.我的欢送会开得很平静。It was only my capacity for hard work that saved me from early dismissal.要不是我能干重活，早就给辞退了。They were all eyes
4、 as the presents were opened.礼品打开时，他们全神贯注地看着。,（3）be+动词的同源形容词句式:This program was not popular with all of the troops.并不是所有军人都喜欢这个计划。John is quite familiar with the machine.约翰十分熟悉这台机器的性能。An acquaintance with the modern Chinese history is helpful to the study of Chinese revolution.了解一点中国近代史，有助于研究中国革命问题。
5、,（4）“be+非动词同源形容词”句式：He was an able and a successful one.他为人能干，事业成功。His ill health has been a very anxious business.他身体不好令人十分担忧。I am quite ignorant of what they intend to do.我的确不知道他们打算干什么。,（5）be+副词句式:We must be off now.我们得走了。The performance is on.演出已经开始了。Their experiment has been over.他们的实验已经结束了。,（6）
6、“be+介词短语”句式：Because of bad government,the company was in the red.由于管理不善，公司出现亏损。The factory is under construction.工厂正在建造中。,（二）化动为静：把原文中的动态句式转换为静态句式。英语有些动态句式译成静态句式往往比译成动态句式要好。例如：High in the Carolina mountains sits a orphanage.在卡罗来纳山地高处有一座孤儿院。,此外，有些英语动态句的意义不易用汉语动态句来表达，或表达不准确、不流畅时，该动态句也需要转换为静态句。例如：Silen
7、ce followed this remark.话音落下，一阵沉默。Our age is witnessing a profound political change.我们的时代是深刻的政治变化的见证。She knows whats what.她很有鉴别力。,概略化与具体化,英汉两种语言均有一个共同的特点：表达某些概念既可运用概略化的手法，也可采用具体化的方式。但就某一概念的表达而言，英语可能采用概略化的表达方式，而汉语却采用具体化的表达方式；或英语采用具体化的表达方式，而汉语采用概略化的表达方式。由于英汉两种语言在这个问题上的差异，翻译时常常有必要将英语具体化的表达方式转换成汉语概略化的表达
8、方式，或是将英语概略化的表达方式转换成汉语具体化的表达方式目的：使译文既不违背原意又能畅达可读。,（一）概略化(generalization),是指采用虚化的方式来翻译原文较为具体化的表达方式。deadlock(打不开的锁)来指“僵局”circulation desk（流通桌子）来只指借阅处,A.具体词义概略化：原文中某些字面意义明确具体的词语，采用汉语中含义抽象、概括的词语来表达。例如：The United States is often depicted as a nation that has been devouring the worlds mineral resources.人们常
9、把美国说成是一个挥霍世界矿物资源的国家。（devour原义为吞食）A single thermonuclear bomb today has the destructive force of all the bombs and other explosives of World War II.今天，一枚热核弹头的杀伤力就相当于二次大战中全部炮火的总和。（bomb和explosive的原义分别为炸弹和炸药）,B.具体概念概略化：原文中某些字面意义比较实在或形象的词组或短语等改译成汉语中比较概括或笼统的说法。例如：In the modern world salt has many uses bey
10、ond the dining table.在现代世界上，盐除了供食用外，还有许多其他用途。（dining table原文为饭桌）Pregnant women and women breast-feeding their children may need vitamins.孕妇和哺乳期的妇女可能需要维生素。（breastchildren原义为给自己的孩子喂奶）,（二）具体化（specification）,是指采用明确具体的方式来翻译原文中较为概略化的表达。A.抽象概念具体化Vietnam was his entrance to the new administration,his third
11、incarnation as a foreign policy consultant.越南战争成了他进入新政府的敲门砖。他担任政府的对外政策顾问，那是第三次了。,B.概括或笼统概念具体化 What is known is that weight extremes in either direction are definitely unhealthy.weight extremes字面意义为“体重的两个极端”众所周知，过度肥胖或消瘦肯定是不健康的。,C.广义词词义具体化Plants cannot grow well in the absence of water.没有水，植物就不能茁壮地生长。
12、Shock the bottle well before the experiment.实验前应反复摇动瓶子。,D.其他情况具体化。在实际翻译过程中，还会碰到其他一些字面意义比较空泛或模糊的词句，如果直译就不能把原文本意交代清楚，有时还会造成歧义。这时就必须采用具体化的办法进行翻译。例如：No reproduction is granted by implication or otherwise of this information.本资料不得私下或公开翻印。（or otherwise具体译为“公开”，以与by implication相对应）The planes may be in comm
13、ercial use as early as the end of this decade or the beginning of the next.这类飞机最早可在八十年代末或九十年代初投入商业飞行。（this decade和the next分别具体译为“八十年代”和“九十年代”）Empties are not taken back.空瓶不退钱。The stars twinkled in transparent clarity.星星在清澈的晴空中闪烁。,练习,I am so grateful to my father for the continuous encouragement duri
