3、）要求 surrender（give）递交 consent（agreement）同意 indemnities(compensation)赔偿 prior to（before）在之前 provided that（but）但是 in accordance with（according to）按照 by virtue of(due to,because of)因为 relating to(about)关于 in effect(in fact)事实上,例1：The bank finally granted a 500 loan to me.译文：银行终于同意给我贷款500英镑。解释：“grant”作为
4、正式用语时，意为to agree to give sb what they ask for,especially formal or legal permission to do sth.而“agree”作为日常用语，用于正式文体中则不太适合。,例2：China could,of course,repatriate all the dollars its exporters earn by selling stuff to the U.S.译文：当然，中国可以将出口商们通过将商品挣来的美元都遣返回美国。解释：repatriate在商务上意为to send money or profit bac
5、k to your own country.(寄钱回国，将利润调回本国)，是商务上常用的正式用语，更为正式、严谨以及庄重。而 send back 则相对口语化和非正式。,二.常用缩略词，外来词，古体词,I.缩略词的使用：言简意赅的缩略词，可避免冗长的解释，简化交易过程，提高工作效率，符合人们的商务英语的使用过程中希望节省时间的，提高效率的要求。在国际商务合同，协议，函电及单证中得以频繁使用。,一、企业缩略语,PLC 或Plc：Public Limited Company（公众有限公司）Ltd Limited有限（企业、公司）Bros Brothers兄弟公司 Co and Company公司

7、e水渍险 DD demand draft即期汇票 MT metric tons公吨 SS steamership舵船 M V motor vessel内燃机船,III.古用语,为体现合同文本行为正式、庄重的文体特征，英文合同常使用一些古体词。这些词主要来源于古英语和中古英语，主要是由here-，there-和where-与一个或几个介词组成的复合副词。,来自拉丁语的商务英语,addiem（在指定日期）status quo（现状）null and void（无效）vice versa（反之亦然）adhoc（特别,临时）as per（按照）de facto（事实上的）,Here,There,Whe
8、re,Here：hereafter(此后，今后),hereby(特此，兹),herein(此中，于此，本合同中)，hereinafter(以下，此后，在下文),hereof(于此，在本合同中),hereto(于此)，hereunder(在下文，据此，根据本合同)，hereunto（于此）,herewith（与此一道）。There：thereafter（此后，后来）thereby(因此，由此，在那方面),therefrom（由此、从此），therein（其中，在其中），thereinafter（在下文），thereof（关于、由此，其中），thereto（此外，附随），thereunder（在其
9、下，据此、依据）。Where：whereas（鉴于），whereby(因此,由是，据此)，wherefore（为此，因此）,wherein（在那方面），whereof(关于那事/人)等。在这些复合副词中，here表示this，there表示that，where表示what或which。,Example,The parties hereto shall,first of all,settle any dispute arising from or in connection with the contract through amicable negotiations合同双方首先应通过友好协商，
10、解决因合同而发生的或与合同有关的争议。,II.外来词的使用,商务英语中使用的专业词汇和半专业词汇，特别是专业的词汇大多来自于拉丁语，法语和希腊语。外来词的使用使商贸英语文本更加正式，庄重和严肃。,3.商务英语的句法特点,商务英语具有正式、严密、严肃的语言特征，行文严谨。为了达到语言简洁，内容准确无误，经常使用大量的介词或介词短语，非谓语动词，情态动词，介词短语，还经常使用结构复杂的从句，倒装句，被动语态等来修饰或限定其内容。,We must stress that this offer is firm for three days only，in regard to the heavy dem

12、s week and confirm it as soon as possible so that we can start our mass production.译文：很高兴通知您，我们的回样将于本周末寄给您，请尽快确认，以便我们开始大批生产。解析：这个句子中inform后面接着that的宾语从句，同时用了被动语态（wil be sent），插入了介词短语（as soon as possible）.从句中又带有 so that 引导的目的状语从句。使用被动语态增加了文体的严肃性和庄重性。,句式结构复杂,句子常常插入短语、从句等限定、说明成分，形成一个冗长的句式结构。,If your com

16、，严肃。“shall”一词是正式公文中出现频率很高的词汇，用来强调合同的法律强制效力。,Things go better with Coca-cola.Coca-cola译文：饮可口可乐，万事如意。-可口可乐该则广告用词通俗化，简洁生动并富有鼓动性，“万事如意”也符合中国百姓的文化传统和心理特点。,In reply to your letter of Jan.9th,we have pleasure in offering,subject to our final confirmation.译文：就贵方1月9号的来函，根据我方的最后确认，我方很高兴供货。商务信函措辞严谨，用语客气，有礼貌，译文
17、也简洁明快。,1 专业术语丰富 作为专门用途英语，商务英语与商务活动密切相关，承载着对外贸易和国际商务等方面的信息交流，其突出特点就体现在专业术语的大量运用。例如：The distributor agrees to accept,on presentation,and to pay with exchange,sight draft against bill of lading attached。译文：经销商同意在提示时予以承兑，凭所附提单以即期汇票的方式支付。上面短短的一句话中，包含了大量的专业术语，如：distributor经销商、accept承兑、on presentation提示、si
18、ght draft 即期汇票、bill of lading提单等。不难看出，没有对商务知识的深入了解和专业术语的熟练掌握，要进行商务英语的翻译必然举步维艰。又如“negotiation”一词，通常作“谈判”解，而在“negotiation of the relative draft”（议付有关汇票）中则表示“议付”解，与普通英语中的含义相去甚远。在做商务英语的翻译时，译者必须懂得商务专业相关知识，避免将专业术语通俗化，否则轻则闹出笑话，重则造成严重的经济损失。,一、商务英语的语言特点（1）,Sec 6,Sec 4,Sec 2,Sec 1,Sec8,Sec 7,返回,2用词正式、严谨而又灵活丰富
19、 商务活动大多具有正式、庄重的特点，与之相适应，商务英语用词一般也较为正式、严谨，以书面语为主，尤其是商务信函、法律文书、协议或合同等公文文体，多使用一些正式，甚至是冷僻的词汇。如：使用prior to/previous to而非before；expiry 而非end；certify 而非prove；solicit 而非seek；appoint 而非make an appointment of；continue而非keep on；in the name of 而非like；along the lines of 而非like；for the purpose of 而非for；in the eve
20、nt of 而非 if；with reference to 而非about等。同时，商务英语词汇又具有灵活多样的特点。不同的介词、词序以及单复数变化等都会导致词义发生重大变化，并给翻译带来一定的困难。例如：property in goods 货权、property of goods货物的属性、appearance surface 外表、surface appearance 表面状况。,一、商务英语的语言特点（2）,Sec 6,Sec 4,Sec 2,Sec 1,Sec8,Sec 7,返回,3 句子结构规范而复杂 商务英语的语句往往具有结构严谨、逻辑严密的特点，力求最大限度地实现表达效果的准确性
21、、时效性和逻辑性。在一些招标文件、投标文件和商务合同中，复杂的复合句、分割现象、介词短语、插入语、同位语、倒装句、被动语态等较为常见，这些句子结构语义层次分明、信息量大、不易产生歧义，因此不仅有利于提高国际商务活动的时效性，而且有利于加速商务信息的传递。例如：(1)This contract is made by and between the buyers and the sellers,whereby the buyers agree to buy and the sellers agree to sell the under-mentioned commodity according t
22、o the terms and conditions stipulated below.译文：本合同由买卖双方订立，因此买卖双方同意按照下面规定的条款买卖以下商品。,一、商务英语的语言特点（3）,Sec 6,Sec 4,Sec 2,Sec 1,Sec8,Sec 7,返回,(2)Should either party to this contract suffer damages because of any wrongful act or neglect of other party,claim shall be adjusted by agreement or arbitration.译文：
23、如果由于他方的违约行为或疏忽而使本合同任何一方遭受损失，其索赔通过协议或仲裁予以理算。现代社会的商人越来越忙，他们使用的商务英语，尤其是在商务信函当中使用的英语，更趋于口语化、简单化，简单句、并列句的使用越来越多，有时甚至使用省略句，如Subject to your confirmation.以你方确认为准；Thank you for your letter dated 7th October offering us Chinese embroideries.贵方十月七日报盘中国绣制品函悉，十分感谢。,一、商务英语的语言特点（4）,Sec 6,Sec 4,Sec 2,Sec 1,Sec8,Se
24、c 7,返回,4 程式化的套语运用广泛 为了提高信息往来的效率和促进商务活动的时效性，商务英语在长期的实践中形成了各种固定的程式化套语。这既是商务英语句法有别于其他语体的一个显著的特点，又是进行商务英语翻译的一个突破口和着眼点。例如：(1)This contract is made by and between the buyers and the sellers,whereby the buyers agree to buy and the sellers agree to sell the undermentioned commodity subject to the terms and
25、conditions stipulated below.译文：买卖双方同意按一下条款购买、出售下列商品并签订本合同。,一、商务英语的语言特点（5）,Sec 6,Sec 4,Sec 2,Sec 1,Sec8,Sec 7,返回,(2)The shipper shall be liable for all damage caused by such goods to the ship and/or cargo on board.译文：如果上述货物对船舶和（或）船上其他货物造成任何损害，托运人应付全责。在上面两个例子中，whereby，undermentioned commodity，subject
