It is true that we have experienced plunders by other nations, we have experienced wars. But based on such ruins, there still stand our nation China, unyielding

4、 and unconquerable.An American tourist said:“ China has a long history of 5,000 years, but the US just has a history of 200 years. 5,000 years ago, China took the first lead in the world, but now it is the US that is leading. ”My heart was deeply touched by these words. Yes it is true that we are st

5、ill a developing nation, but it does not mean we can despise ourselves. We have such a long standing history, we have such abundant resources, we have such intelligent and diligent people, we have enough to be proud of. When I stood before the microphone

18、 with all eyes starring directly at me, I could hardly speak. I stood there, embarrassed and helpless, struggling in vain for the right thing to say. My fears had paralyzed me.While my passion for English has never changed, I lost my courage to speak in public. When my professor again encouraged me

19、to take part in this Competition, I said “no.” I couldnt endure yet another painful experience. He looked me straight in the eye and said something that pierced my heart. I will never forget his words. “Look,” he said, “We all have our fears, and you have yours. You could twist your ankle in a baske

20、tball game, but then be afraid to ever play again. Running away can never dispel your fears, but action will. A winner is not one who never fails,but one who never quits.”I spent a whole day with his words twisting and turning in my mind. Then I made the bravest and wisest decision of my life: I wou

21、ld face my fears and take part in the competition!As it turned out, my dear old professor was right. Now, here I am, once again standing before a microphone. My heart is beating fast, and my mouth is dry, but most importantly, I have faced my fears - and that makes all the difference!Thank you.大学生英语

Then one day, the irate tortoise answered back: Who do you think you are? Theres no denying youre swift, but even you can be beaten! The hare squealed with l

Now, why dont you try?Annoyed by such bragging, the tortoise accepted the challenge. A course was planned, and the next day at dawn they stood at the starting line. The hare ya

24、wned sleepily as the meek tortoise trudged slowly off. When the hare saw how painfully slow his rival was, he decided, half asleep on his feet, to have a quick nap. Take your time! he said. Ill have forty winks and catch up with you in a minute.The hare woke with a start from a fitful sleep and gaze

25、d round, looking for the tortoise. But the creature was only a short distance away, having barely covered a third of the course. Breathing a sigh of relief, the hare decided he might as well have breakfast too, and off he went to munch some cabbages he had noticed in a nearby field. But the heavy me

26、al and the hot sun made his eyelids droop. With a careless glance at the tortoise, now halfway along the course, he decided to have another snooze before flashing past the winning post. And smiling at the thought of the look on the tortoises face when it saw the hare speed by, he fell fast asleep an

27、d was soon snoring happily. The sun started to sink, below the horizon, and the tortoise, who had been plodding towards the winning post since morning, was scarcely a yard from the finish. At that very point, the hare woke with a jolt. He could see the tortoise a speck in the distance and away he da

28、shed. He leapt and bounded at a great rate, his tongue lolling, and gasping for breath. Just a little more and hed be first at the finish. But the hares last leap was just too late, for the tortoise had beaten him to the winning post. Poor hare!
