1、FOREWORDItiswithgreatpleasurethatIintroducetheAustralianGameDevelopmentSurvey(AGDS)FY2023IndustrySnapshot.Thisyear,sreportmarkstheseventhyearthatIGEAhasundertakenthisimportantsurvey,providingvaluableinsightsintothesize,scope,andhealthoftheAustraliangamedevelopmentindustry.TheAGDSFY2023IndustrySnapsh

2、otpaintsapictureofanindustrycontinuingtogrowandmatureatasteadypace.Over$345millionwasgeneratedbyAustraliangamedevelopersinFY2023,representinganincreaseof21%overthepreviousyear.Atleast2,458peopleworkdirectlyinthesector,representingemploymentgrowthof17%.Thelocalindustryismaturingwithasignificantnumber

3、ofbusinesseshavingmorethanadecade*sworthofexperience.MuchofthisgrowthhasbeenunderpinnedbythesuiteofsupportofferedbythegovernmentsatbothFederalandStatelevels,providingconfidencetothesectorandtheabilitytocommencemanynewgameprojects.Despiteadverseglobaleconomicconditionsdirectlyimpactingoursector,Austr

25、llrespondentshadreceivedsomeformofgovernmentfunding.Thisdatahighlightsthatthebulkoftheindustry(79%)areworkinginsmallerstudios,employing20orlessstaffmembers.TheDigitalGamesTaxOffset(DGTO)onlypassedintolegislationinJune2023(businessescanretroactivelyclaimbackthroughtoJuly2022)withtheintentionofallowin

26、gstudiostogrowandemploymorepeople.Welookforwardtoseeingmorecompaniesofvaryingsizes-small,medium,andlargeacrossthegamedevelopmentecosysteminAustralia.IntermsoftheDGTO,51%ofrespondentsintendtoutilisetheDGTOpendingeligibility.SincetheannouncementoftheDGTO,Australianbusinesseshavebeenabletocreateplansto
