1、英汉习语的翻译,主要内容,一、什么是习语二、 习语的特点三 、习语的翻译方法 1.直译法 2.汉语同义习语 套译法 3.意译法,习语是语言在发展的过程中，经过长时间的使用而提炼出来的形象化语言，通常为固定的短语或短句，是语言中闪光的精华部分，也可以说是使用这种语言的人民之智慧结晶。英语和汉语都是历史悠久、高度发展的语言，因而两种语言都拥有大量的习语。,一 什么是习语,习语一般都形象生动，表述简洁，有的还前后对称，韵律协调，朗朗上口；有的具有非常形象的修辞效果，有的带有浓厚的民族色彩和地方色彩；有的习语意思简单明了，有的却很含蓄，富于联想；有的甚至有多种意义，要结合语境灵活选择。,英语习语（id
2、ioms）就广义而言，包括俗语(colloquialisms)，谚语(proverbs)和俚语(slang expressions)等。,习语在语义上是不可以望文生义的，因为它的整体意义是不能从组成习语的各个词汇的表面含义中唾手可得的；另外，习语的结构是固定的，因为它经历了很长时间的运用，经千锤百炼而确立，是约定俗成的，不能随意改动。,二 习语的特点,二 习语的特点,例如：1. 3、 Like knows like.,三、习语的翻译方法,三 习语的翻译方法,由于习语具有以上的特点，翻译时就尽量保持这些特点。这就要求译者不仅要忠实表达原文习语的意义，还要尽可能保持原文的丰富联想，修辞效果以及民族和地方特色。,习语不仅大量地出现在文艺作品中和政治、科学论文中，在口语中也会使用一些习语，因此，习语的翻译是一个非常重要的问题，习语翻译的好坏对整个译文的质量及听懂英语口语都有直接的影响。英语习语汉译主要有以下三种方法:,1、直译法 这种方法是习语翻译的很常用的一种方法。直译(literal translation) 的字面意思就是“完全依照原文翻译”。但直译法的运用，必须遵循译文的
4、语言规范，不能引起错误的联想，要尽可能地保留英语习语的原汁原味。,三 习语的翻译方法1,有时尽管汉语读者对英语习语的比喻或典故不太熟悉，但通过上下文体现的西方民族色彩或是政治色彩，可以使汉语读者接受和理解，而且经大量使用后，又丰富了汉语语言。,英语习语大致可以分为两类，一类是根据组成习语的词汇字面意思而推知整个习语意义的，一类是意义深奥或出自著名文学作品，圣经，神话传说或历史典故的。这两类习语均可使用直译法。,三 习语的翻译方法1,例如 第一类中：as easy as turning over ones hand a gentlemans agreement A rolling stone g

6、nto victory to stir up trouble within ones ability,第二类习语是有比喻或象征意义，或各有出处，如意思不为读者所熟悉，可加注说明寓意，但使用直译法确定后，大部分已作为广为接受的习语。例如： All is not gold that glitters. a wolf in sheeps clothing sour grapes a Judas kiss an olive branch Eden eye for eye, tooth for tooth,new wine in old bottles wash ones hands of a thin

11、习语的翻译方法2,在翻译中会遇到一些不是习语的单词或短语，有时也可根据上下文或字面含义套译为汉语习语，可使译文增色。例如：1.She is always very nervous before crowds.,2. Tom looked at me with a bemused look. 3. This village looks very small against the vase expanse of the plain.,三 习语的翻译方法2,类似的还有：a lengthy speech be greedy blush careful classify disappear flee,
12、homeless outstanding penniless smile well-dressed,在使用这种方法时，要注意译文应忠实于原文内容和文章总的文体风格，不可滥用汉语习语，以词害义。,三 习语的翻译方法3,三意译法 有些英语习语不好用直译法翻译，而且在汉语中也找不到类似的习语可以套译，尤其是一些习语中涉及到一些读者不太熟悉的背景知识和比喻意义，这时就要使用翻译中另外一种非常重要的方法即意译法。意译（free translation）的字面意思是“自由翻译”，但这个“自由”不是随便和无限制的，我们必须依照原文的意思，结合上下文把英语习语的寓意恰当地表达出来。,例如：1.
