1、Information on Relief Teaching in the Department of Education, TasmaniaTo be eligible to work as a relief teacher in Tasmania you must: be registered as a teacher in Tasmania through the Tasmanian Teachers Registration Board. The TRB can be contacted by telephone on 6233 5992 or by email at trb.admi

2、neducation.tas.gov.au. Further information about the TRB is available on their website at http:/www.trb.tas.gov.au; and have a good character check clearance to work in the Department of Education. This is in addition to clearance requirements through the teacher registration process. The applicatio

3、n form is available at http:/www.education.tas.gov.au/dept/careers/employment/pre-requisites/goodcharacter. You will receive a letter confirming your clearance to work in the Department of Education.When the above two criteria have been satisfied you must then register your interest on E-Pool, the D

4、epartments fixed term register, in order to be employed/paid as a relief teacher. You can register on line at: http:/epool.education.tas.gov.au. If you do not have internet access contact DoE recruitment by telephone on 6233 7101 and they will send you a hard copy application form.Please Note: Relie

5、f teachers can only be employed when they have satisfied all of the above requirements.Relief Teacher Good Character Check RequirementsAll relief teachers must have a current clearance with the Department of Education prior to working. This requirement is in addition to satisfying the registration r

6、equirements of the Teachers Registration Board.What this means for individual Teachers:Relief teachers must complete a good character check form available at: http:/www.education.tas.gov.au/dept/careers/employment/pre-requisites/goodcharacter/preempcheck.doc and forward it to the Conduct and Investi

7、gations Unit, GPO Box 169, Hobart, 7001. A letter confirming your clearance to work in the Department of Education will be sent to you. Please Note: Good Character Check Clearances are granted for a specific time period only (usually three years). It is your responsibility to keep your clearance up

8、to date. Therefore, if you have previously had a clearance and it has expired you must complete another good character check form. If you are not sure when your clearance expires or you have any other queries about the clearance process please telephone (03) 6233 7896.What this means for SchoolsScho

9、ols must not employ relief teachers who do not have a current clearance with the Department. Relief teachers should provide evidence to the school of their current clearance together with evidence of their current teacher registration prior to working in that school. Schools who wish to check the st

10、atus of any teacher can telephone the Conduct and Investigations Unit on (03) 6233 7896.Department of EducationTips for Success as a Relief Teacher Where possible visit schools you are interested in working in prior to your relief appointment. Introduce yourself, leave a copy of your CV, and request

11、 a meeting with the Principal and/or the Relief Teacher Coordinator. Ask for a copy of the schools behaviour management policy and any other relevant information. If given sufficient notice arrive at the school 30 minutes before the start of lessons. Be prepared. As a qualified teacher the expectati

12、on is that you will arrive with appropriate material for the subject/grade you have been engaged to teach. At the end of the day leave a brief written report of how the class went and what was done under your direction. Follow up on any difficulties with the Principal or Relief Teacher Coordinator a

13、nd ask for feedback regarding your performance.Relief Teacher PaymentsTo ensure you are paid appropriately please take note of the following information:The first time you teach in a departmental school your host school will provide you with a New Employees Information Pack. If you are not given a p

14、ack please request one.For your pay to be processed DoE need notification of your work within schools through the Electronic Relief Claim Form and the following: Employee Details form Birth Certificate or an Extract of Birth Certificate Evidence of qualifications e.g. Copy of transcripts, degrees et

15、c. Even though you may have provided these to the TRB they are required by DoE to calculate your appropriate pay rate. Evidence of previous work experience. i.e. a statement of service, signed by previous employers, containing the following information work location/s, full-time and/or part-time emp

16、loyment details and the commencement and end dates of each work placement. Superannuation fund Choice Election Form An Australian Tax File Number Declaration FormRelief payments are coordinated by the Payroll Services Section and paid fortnightly on alternate Wednesdays. Once you have worked for the

18、97 or 6233 7043Department of EducationPerformance Management Information for Relief TeachersWhen you undertake a relief appointment in a school your suitability will be assessed by the school. The main areas of assessment include: Capacity to teachThis covers assessment of your prepared material, yo

19、ur subject knowledge of the grade/subject that you have been engaged to teach and your overall suitability as a relief teacher Behaviour ManagementThis covers your ability to engage and interact with the students giving consideration to the schools behaviour management policy and specific informatio

20、n on any particular student issues at that school. Professional ConductThis includes your own behaviour and conduct with students, staff and parents.Important points to assist you in your performanceRegistrationIn addition to satisfying the registration requirements (Teacher Registration Board, Good

21、 Character Check clearance and E-pool) you should only register your interest in relief teaching in your specific areas of training and expertise. Do not include areas that you think you are capable in or you are interested in teaching just to increase your chances of gaining work.Be preparedYou may

22、 be asked to teach a particular subject or grade and the expectation is that you will have appropriate material prepared for that class. Do not include subjects or grades that you do not have training, skills or experience in teaching.Behaviour ManagementEach school has a behaviour management policy

23、 for their school. Familiarise yourself with the policy and speak to the Principal and/or other staff preferably before you commence work in that school so that you have a clear understanding of what is expected of you.What happens if a school is not satisfied with your performance?The Principal (or

24、 school contact) should provide you with direct feedback about any concerns they have or if they are not satisfied with any aspect of your performance as a relief teacher. If these concerns remain following discussion with you the Principal may choose not to employ you as a relief teacher again.If the issue is of a serious nature, or performance concerns have been expressed by a number of schools, Learning Services may determine that you are not to be employed as a relief teacher by any schools in the future. You would be advised formally of this decision.Department of Education
