That game simulate a virtual environment is for entertainment, but if we adapt it to English study, what will happen? We should let the students learn English unconsciously but with happiness.

First of all, English is widely used in most international conferences and formal situations. And the most advanced nation, America,
6、uses English as its mother tongue. Many students want to go to America for further study. They care a lot about English, taking part in all kind of English test such as TOEFL and GRE when pursuing their Bachelor or Master Degrees. But to us Chinese, learning English well is not so easy to realize al
7、though almost every students in university have learnt English for about ten years. The major problem is oral English that is the most important in communication, which embodies the disadvantage of current English teaching system. And most English learner is not familiar with the culture and habits
8、of an English speaking country. In the class, what the teacher tells us is the knowledge but not the civilization. We can master the vocabulary and structure well but we are not able to construct a beautiful sentence and speak it out. We can have a high mark in all kind of exams but we failed to com
9、municate fluently with a foreigner. In the 21st century, with the development of science and technology, can we find another way to learn English to replace the traditional one and achieve excellent result? But it seems out of the question in the current Chinas situation. Going abroad is an unbearable financial burden to most family and not everyone is so
13、lucky to have a foreign lover. We need to simulate such an English environment but how? Many universities try their best to do so, playing original film, employing foreign teachers, organizing all kind of English activities, etc. But the result is not so effective and satisfactory. The effort is too
14、 small in comparison with the number of students in a whole university.How to simulate an environment that is big enough to hold all the students in the university and meet their needs? As far as I know, as soon as the Internet became popular, these websites came into existence and increased in a high speed
19、 in number. Nowadays, the Internet is flooded with such websites. I have visited a lot before. In this essay, Ill illustrate some. You can find the addresses of these websites at the end of this essay.1. 1. English OnlineThis website is designed simple but a bit chaotic. Luckily, the content of this
20、 website is very intact and categorized clearly. You can find almost all you want in this web which covers most of the exam you might take part in and all kinds of materials such as news, poems, magazines, bibles and so on. It is the most fruitful website for English study I have ever seen. Its a po
21、werful tool to help everybody to learn English.2. 2. English CornerIt has the similar style as English Online, not beautiful but practical. It stores less information than English Online. Its arrangement is not as good as English online, so sometimes you cannot find what you want immediately althoug
22、h the contents do exist in it.3. 3. English Study The homepage is very beautiful and fresh. The picture in the right part indicates that the website covers the topics of VOA News, movie and music, reading, listening and writing. The navigation bars in the left give more detailed classification of th
23、e content. But when you step farther, you will find it is not as good as its appearance. Although the most content is O.K., the page inside is ugly, not suitably decorated which affects its impression on me. And most of its contents need to be downloaded while cannot play or seen online which will d
24、ecrease the efficiency of the webpage.4. 4. 52ABC English CommunityThe design attracts my eyeballs. I like the style of clearness and comeliness. The website shows its appearance as a community. It is an interactive way to communicate the experience of English study. Its a good way to make an Englis
25、h study website. The passage here is not so formal and strict. It gives the user a kind of atmosphere of easy and relaxation. To some extend, this way of learning English is successful.5. 5. English Teaching Web in SJTUSince I was a member of designing and making the web for SJTU, I know it better t
26、han the other four. The form of the website is beautiful but lack of animation. Everything is standing still, giving the user the feeling of formality and solemnity. There are both merits and demerits for this kind of design. In order to attract more students both in SJTU and out of SJTU, we need to
27、 add more flash and motion picture on it. But too much special effect should also be avoided; otherwise, the whole page will be displayed in disorder. To the content and the classification, you can see the “Question Board”, “Syllabus”, “Study Garden”, “Internet Resources”, “Examination”, “Study Foru
28、m” and so on. The classification is reasonable and enough. The “Question Board” and the “BBS” is the interactive part which can increase the communication between the students and the teachers and among the students. After the questioning and answering, the level of English is lifted. The “Study Gar
29、den” in fact is the rearrangement of the resources in the Internet for the students which is selected carefully by the most experience professors in our university. And the others are for the English course in our university.To sum up, after seeing these five websites, it is not difficult to discove
30、r that, except for the forum part, the whole websites were developed using HTML, static pages. The techniques required to develop such web pages are relatively easy. But the main disadvantage of these techniques is that the website is short of interaction. Whats interaction? It is the ability of a w
31、eb to react to the action of the client of the website. When user give different instructions or enter different message, different web page will be shown to the user. This ability carved a brief figure of a better website for English study. The web should be capable of responding differently toward
32、s the users operation. For example, if we want to demonstrate a Band 4 sample paper on the web, we used only to put the questions on the web. The users can read the questions and do the exercises on the paper, then check the keys. Thats not an efficient way to learn English. If our website is intera
33、ctive, the user can just click the choices using his mouse, finish the paper online then submit. As soon as his answers are submitted, the score of this users answers are determined, and the key will be shown beside. Some reference ideas are also displayed. In this way, the learner can save a lot of
34、 time comparing his answer with the keys and spend more on analyzing his mistakes. It is the primary application of interactive website. If we step further, the website will have the AI which stands for the Artificial Intelligence.To be honest, these websites can raise my English level and give me h
35、igher scores in the exams but they cannot arouse my interest in English. If our goal is only to raise the students scores in the exams, unfortunately we have fallen into the Chinese traditional mode of spoon-feed which poison many generations. We need some fresh idea and considerations how to arouse
36、 the students interest in English and promote their integrated capability in English. Can our students can adapt the life aboard as soon as they arrive in a English speaking country? Not only the ability of using English but also the acquaintances of the foreign culture and custom are required.By us
