、roductionIn the 20th century, with the development of the information industry and economic globalization, foreign language, especially English have already become an indispensable tool in ordinary life and international intercourse. More and more students are getting in touch with English when they

、 enter school. But English, as a difficult course in primary school, is abstract and dull. As a language, without the students corresponding language environment, it will be difficult. R. Gardener and W. Lambert found that a successful learner has not only talent, but also learning power. For learne

、rs, their desire and impetus can be roused only when they meet across things that they are interested in. So the primary English teaching should be based on pupils hobbies to choose teaching methods. According to S. Krashens Emotion Filter Hypothesis, learner will be affected by their emotion when t

、hey study. Then we can say, primary English teaching must put pupils in a loose and comfortable study surrounding to move and keep their best emotion condition, strengthen their study power and confidence. One of the Russian educators once said: “Studying without the slightest interest will stifle s

、tudents desire to the mandatory truth.” There is English proverb going: “Education must be lively.” Teachers should use all their own forces to make the teaching become the students cheer source then encourage their all-round development. Game teaching as a form of teaching activities focuses on the

、 goal of games, making games becomes one with the teaching process. In games, students can follow the teachers guide, control and use the material in their hands, to show their ability and desire, achieve the teaching objectives relaxed and happily. Then, what role did game play in the teaching?II.

、The Functions of Games in English TeachingNow, I will talk about the functions of games in English teaching with my own experience.1. Games help students to motivate their learning interestsCuriosity, naughty and fun is childrens nature, but many primary school teachers have complained that it is di

、fficult to control them during the class. The atmosphere in class must be regulated strictly, and it cant be relaxed. However, scenically education should conform to the physical and mental development of students. Pupils endurance is very limited, it is difficult to make them pay full attention to

、their study during the class, and we often get half the result with twice the effort. So we often hear teacher said why the students cant understand after learning so many times. It is because the format vivid and activity games conform to games in the class will make the climax of atmosphere in the

、 classroom occur repeatedly, and it help cultivate students learning interests. According to the theory “be glad to study” and the requirements of quality education, games can arouse students learning interests so that students have a sense of achievement and pride in learning and participating acti

、vely in classroom teaching activities, and they also can let students understand easily and mitigate the students burden. For instance, when we learn new sentence like “How old are you? Im 10.” Practice this dialogue with throwing balls. We use a soft ball lightly to throw the nearest one of my stud

、ents, at the same time say “How old are you?” the student may answer, “Im 10.”And then repeat the former sentence and throw the ball to the next, the student said the latter sentence. On the analysis of this activity, we can see that the timid student can be actively involved and bold to say a sente

Teachers ask students to practice through setting up the real scene in games as possible as they can, and to grasp their features like sing

、ing, dancing which inspire students to consolidate knowledge and change the knowledge to skills and develop their abilities, and then embody the interesting content by using the form of attractive games. For example, learning words like apple, mango, banana, and watermelon. After introducing these w

、ords, I ask four students to come to the platform, each of them holds corresponding fruit pictures on their hands. Then, call the fruits names and give an order: “Apple squat, apple squat, mango squat, mango squat” When they squat, they repeat these new words at the same time. Soon after, students c

、an learn these words by heart.3. Games can train students innovative thinking abilityActive mentality can enrich language. Logical thinking can smooth language. Game teaching can help students promote their thinking ability. If we can guide students to put more sense, attention, perception, and imag

、ination to study, they will get more fully development in games. When we teach one sentence structure, if we allow students to compose childrens poem in class, sentence structure will appear repeatedly which inspire the students thinking and imagination, so that our teaching effectiveness can gain u

I have a pear, I have an apple, I have an orange, and I love them very much” When we practice this phrase, we can guide the students to join in some activities and speak in practice. The students int

、erests will be strong and the positive factor will also be improved. With focus thinking and active thinking, the power of memory becomes stronger and stronger. Therefore, the dynamic of game teaching is not only good for students learning but also good for communication between teachers and student

、s, between partners for their interpersonal relations and various types of activities exchanges.4. Games teaching can effectively improve the quality of studentsLearning foreign languages should learn not only pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and other aspects of knowledge and skills in listening,

、 speaking, reading and writing, but also overall quality of training for students, including character, personality, culture, thinking, and learning capacities. Traditional rigid methods of teaching neglected academic integrity and relevance so that the status of students is not established in teach

、ing, students just learn to cope with examinations. The traditional methods are those with more force than guidance, and more instilling than enlightenment in the teaching process, ignoring the practice and experience of students, ignoring exchange, cooperation, participation and explore ways of lea

、rning, diminishing the interest and enthusiasm of students, hindering the free development of their personality and the sense of independence formation, the academic burden is too heavy and learning atmosphere is too boring. However, games can help students to relax effectively. In games, children c

、an learn how to work with others, comply with the rules, and grasp the opportunities for self-expression from all aspects. In short, the course is accompanied by games. In the teaching process, to put the new content into games becomes a useful teaching method, which can gain an unexpected effect of

、teaching. Game teaching applies to children, because they can feel learning English is no longer tedious. They also can feel that English in classes is that I can say, I can perform, I will do and I will play. They are masters of learning, especially for some students. The games can develop students

、 strong points and at the same time avoid the weak ones. Under a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, students learn English by playing games with joys, interests, self-confidence, impetus and the sense of achievement.III. The Role of Games Teaching in Primary SchoolEnglish Curriculum Standard points ou

In p

、ractice, weve discovered that game is an effective way of teaching English.1. To motivate the students learning activityPupils like games. As a teacher its very necessary to design some interesting games in language teaching to attract students and make them master the language in a relaxed and happ

、y atmosphere. Game is a kind of environmental cognition, is an under-strained activity to imitate actions and characteristics of the surrounding figures. So, in oral English teaching, games are often used to motivate students activity. In my teaching practice, I asked students to play the role of an

、imals and put some animals pictures on their heads. To practice this sentence, “Hello, Im Mr. Tiger, Whats your name?” Students rushed on to the forefront to play the game. At the same time, the atmosphere of classroom went to a climax, and the students achieved expected results. In this game, stude

、nts not only mastered the words and the sentences, but also developed their English interests.2. To help students to grasp and consolidate knowledgeGames can motivate students activity and stimulate students interests, also it can help students master the knowledge. During the teaching progress, we

、make full use of games in textbook. Besides, we can also design some simple, easy games to pick up the essence and language points of the text, which can achieve the knowledge in a happy atmosphere. For instance, in teaching alphabet, I had designed the game called Man Bridge. When playing the game,

、 two students hold their hands to make Man Bridge, moving up and down with music. Some students who are wearing marked capital letter minuscule on their head must go through “the bridge”, the others are sitting on the seats, reading the letter on ones head immediately, until a student is caught by “

、the bridge”. In this way, students can learn letters by heart rapidly and have a good time. Then, students can play the game called “Find Neighbors” to consolidate the knowledge. Such as, Gs neighbors are F and H. So, students can master the alphabet in good order. The main task of English teaching i

、n primary school is to stimulate students to learn and foster good learning habits in lively atmosphere in classroom, to set up a good foundation for junior English learning. The best way of learning is to stimulate the interest by playing games. For pupils, interests will directly affect the teachi

、ng and learning. However, without the teachers inspiration and cultivation, students cannot establish and strengthen the learning interests. Therefore, its very important to cultivate the students learning interests. English language teaching in primary school focus on cultivating interests, but it

、cannot just rely on speaking, singing and playing. In order to learn English well, we cultivate interests by playing games, which is a vital way of learning English in primary English. It is particularly important to change tedious language activities into interesting teaching games as well as possi

According to the educational psychology, students can concentrate their attention, communication, memory, thinking and imagi

Thereby, to gain more and more solid knowledge and skills, demonstrated desire and joy of learning, the first step is to apply games to making students involved in various activities about learning knowledge and grasping skills in classroom. The game teachings process is different from other activities. Its a control sequence process, which have strong teaching purpose and a directly service for definite teaching content. It combine
