People in and outside Tsinghua University expressed their outrage, denouncing its authorities for allowing the university to be contaminated by commercialism. To a large extent, such indignation is ju

3、stified. Almost all Chinese universities are established and financially supported by the government. As public institutions, they are expected to concentrate solely on educating upright students and performing independent research. Commercialism has been carefully warded off so that neither univers

4、ities nor their students would become money-oriented. Therefore, many fear that, if commercial encroachment is allowed to happen to a top university like Tsinghua University, rampant commercialism would extend to all universities across China. However, no specific laws or regulations prohibit indivi

5、duals or corporate organizations from making donations and having their names inscribed on certain facilities. In fact, some universities have already done so. Investigations show that, in Tsinghua University itself, there have been three precedentsthree buildings in the School of Journalism, the Me

6、dical School and the School of Electronics have been respectively named after their donators. In the United States, this is a common practice and perhaps we have not yet grown accustomed to it. A key factor in this controversy involves the need to scrutinize the motivation behind each donation. On o

7、ne hand, we shouldnt dampen the enthusiasm of individuals and corporate organizations to perform their social responsibility by making generous donations. On the other hand, we shouldnt indiscriminately accept donations that carry explicit commercial intentions. Additionally, the management of the c

8、ollected funds should be transparent, ensuring that the funds are exclusively used for educational purposes. An academic credential reflects a st

14、udents academic knowledge and expertise, with which he becomes qualified for performing certain professional responsibilities at certain professional positions. Academic credentials shouldnt be falsified because false credentials are dangerous. For example, a medical graduate with false credentials

15、can kill his patients rather than rescuing them. Currently, fabricating academic credentials is particularly rampant in China, where all recruitments seem to involve credentials. In order to secure the job they want, some job seekers without the required credentials have no alternative but to have t

16、hem fabricated by professional forgers. While condemning users of fake credentials on both legal and moral grounds, we somehow tend to sympathize with them as they are victimized by a society addicted to the credential mania. A more despicable form of credential fabrication is perpetrated by those a

17、lready highly successful peoplebusinessmen, entrepreneurs, government officials, celebrities in the entertainment industry, etc. They use false credentials not so much to advance their careers as to project their personal image as an icon. This is a greater evil because those fabricators contrive, t

18、hrough fraudulence, to secure our admiration and respect on the spiritual level. A most notorious case is the scandal of TxxJxx, who pretends to be a role model for innocent Chinese youth, with false Ph.D. credential from a non-existent American university. To solve this problem, a combination of me

19、asures is necessary. We should evaluate a person by his true caliber, not solely by his credentials. Legally, we should crack down on both the seller and the buyer of false credentials. Finally, we should keep exposing and denouncing fabricators so they can no longer fool us. In this way, our societ

Students prepare for those exam

26、inations either through years of arduous self-education or by spending large sums of money attending local training schools. The publishing of examinations-related study materials and the training programs offered, both online and offline, have combined to form a sizable industry. An alarming fact a

27、bout this craze is that most students pursue graduate studies not out of their voluntary will. Faced with the harsh reality in the employment market, which is forever looking for graduates with higher degrees, many college graduates find going to graduate schools is a good way to avoid unemployment

28、and to enhance ones competitiveness in future job hunting. However, without that voluntary initiative, most students who do enter graduate schools are not motivated. For them, the only thing that ultimately counts is the degree or the diploma which they expect could give them an upper hand against o

29、ther job hunters. As to the actual substance of their graduate studies, its not a big deal for them, as long as it leads to that degree or diploma. It is really pathetic to see that students undertake graduate studies with an ulterior motivenot for the sake of loving what they study, but for the sak

30、e of merely landing a job, which in many cases might be unrelated to what they have studied. The chill truth is that students soon find their anticipations are a mere dream. As so many undergraduates proceed onto graduate studies, the employment situation remains as severe as ever. Instead of bringi

31、ng about apparent competitive edges, two or three years of additional academic training is simply a waste of time and energy. They need to reflect on this craze and would have been better off distinguishing themselves with outstanding knowledge and skills when they were undergraduates. 考 研 热 每年,数以百万
