And it is an

4、 important part. Different location, different nations have different styles of cultures, but they all have a unique value. Due to the different geographical and historical, Western and Chinese cultural backgrounds are quite different. Westerners and Chinese have a cultural background very different

5、. China and Western differences cultural manifested in all aspects, from the daily diet of cultural differences greeting language in everywhere. And through this paper, eating habits, customs, and education shows the differences between China and Western cultures. Keywords: Eating habits; education;

6、 cultural difference, China, WesternIntroduction The main difference between Western and China eating habits is that unlike, where everyone has their own plate of food, in China the dishes are placed on the table and everybody shares. If you are being treated by a Chinese host, be prepared for a ton

7、 of food. Chinese are very proud of their culture of food and will do their best to give you a taste of many different types of cuisine. And the family education is related to a persons life. Because of the different social systems, culture backgrounds, education aims and so on, family education for

8、 the children are different in many aspects between China and Western. This paper introduces the eating habit of cultural, points out the different family education between China and Western (mainly on aspects of family educations contents, aims and methods). And through this paper, it let us know m

9、ore about the difference cultural between China and Western. 1 Differences food between China and Western 1.1Differences in targetsAll diet cannot be done without vegetables. The word dish is for the sound in China, and it always has something to do with the plants. According to a survey of Western

10、plants scholar, there are 600 varieties of vegetables, six times more than in the west. In fact, the Chinese dishes, vegetable dish is usual food. Meat dish entered the normal diet only on holidays or higher living standards, so since ancient times, and there was a saying of fresh vegetables. Chines

11、e people consider the vegetables as the main dish; it has inextricably linked with the advocacy of Buddhists. They deem animals as people and plants have no soul. So, they advocate vegetarianism. Westerners do not seem to have such a good habit. They uphold a cultural origin of nomadic, seafaring na

12、tion. Living mainly by fishing and hunting, collection and planting are just the complement. 1.2Differences in Dietary PatternsThe Chinese and Western dietary patterns can be very different, and these differences affect the national character. In China, a celebration, no matter what, there will be o

13、nly one form, as sitting together, sharing one feast. Banquet uses round table, which has created a unity of form, which is courtesy, comity atmosphere. Cater are in the center of the table. It is the objects for people to appreciate and taste, and it is also an intermediate of communication. People

14、 toast each other and share the vegetables, which reflect the mutual respect between people in the face of the good things, also show the virtues of comity. Although from the health point of view, this approach has obvious deficiencies, but it is in our national happy mentality, it reflects the clas

15、sical Chinese philosophy area of and impact for future generations. The western-style banquets, although the food and wine are very important, but in fact they are just foil. The core of Banquet is friendship, by the conversation with the guests who sitting next to achieve the purpose of recreation.

16、 If making an analogous compare between the recreation of the banquets and dancing, it may be said that the Chinese banquet is like group dance, and the western banquet is like men and women dancing. This shows that communication purpose of Chinese banquet and western banquet are very obvious. Only

17、the Chinese banquet is more popular in the communion, but western banquet shows guests reflected in the friendship between neighbors. The more obvious differences between Chinese and western dietary patterns is buffet dinner which is popular in the West. This method is to display all food, and every

18、body is picking not fixed in his or her places to eat. They walk freely. This approach would provide the emotional interaction between individuals; they never need to put every word on the table. This also shows a western personality and self-respect.2 Differences in customs2.1ThankfulnessGenerally

19、speaking, we Chinese people rarely use thank you among family members, it sounds will be strange, or mutual relations with the distance. In the English-speaking countries Thank you is used in virtually every occasion. Even if the parents and children, brothers and sisters are no exception. Send a bo

20、ttle of drink, to prepare a table meal, the person will say Thank you. In public places, no matter who help you, you must say “thank you” to him. This is the most basic courtesy.Would you like something to eat or drink? We usually accustomed to polite about it, say: No, Do not trouble, and so on. In

21、 accordance with the habit of English-speaking countries, if you want, you do not put off, say Yes, please. If you want, just say No, thanks. This fully demonstrates the China and Western countries of different styles.2.2 IntroductionWhats your name? the frequency of very high, but the circumstances

22、 under which it is rarely explained. In fact, Western countries introduce their first names, such as I am John Smith. And they will give their full names instantly. Even in completing the form, interviews and other occasions when you need to ask and the name, usually just say Your name, please? Or M

23、ay I know your name? If you use the Whats your name? They will have a feeling of being questioned.2.3PrivacyThe Chinese first meeting, asked about age, marital status, income expressed concern, while the Western countries who are disgusted with this comparison that related to personal privacy. 24、ch a dialogue: A: How old are you, Miss Green? B: Ah, its a secret! Why does Miss Green refuse to divulge his age? Because the Western countries who want to be in each others eyes see full of energy, panacea, for their actual age secret. Another example is the Chinese people expressed concern about

This is the privacy of spying on other people questioning someone elses words and unwelcome surveillance in the western.2.4FestivaThe cultural differences reflected in the festival area between China and Western. In addition to common holidays, such

26、as the New Year, also have their own unique festivals, China has the Spring Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Day, etc.; Western countries have the Valentines Day , Easter , Fools Day , Mothers Day , Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day and so on. Western holiday customs are very differen

27、t; in festivals, a gift for someone else, China and Western countries also show a different attitude. Chinese people often have to put off them. Not generally accepted in person to open. If the face open and visibly pleased, it may lead to mercenary is suspect. Western countries, people send gifts t

28、o others are generally required to personally open the praise about it, and are pleased to thank.3 Differences in education3.1 Different type Different from Chinese family education, American indulgent type of family education had more harmful effect ion. Because over indulgent, it made a lot of soc

In radio or TV, we sometimes can get a information that a 15-year-old boy shot his friend in the middle school. 3.2 Communicate methodsAmerican think that every member in a family, he or she should had his or her own space. In their opinions, they cant interfere each other even they ar

30、e in a family. And when a person is 18 years old, he may leave his parents. It means his has little time to stay with their parents. So they have less responsibility to their parents. But, in Chinese people eyes, its no a good idea to leave their parents. It may lose the chances to communicate with

31、each other. 3.3 The comparison of the family educations process between China and America From the results of the family education, we can find, in the process of family education, although it is not a kind of systematic education, it still has its educational aims, contents and methods, like the sc

32、hools, which play an important role in the educational system. The aims of education are the most important ones which determine family educations contents and methods. 3.4 The comparison of the aims of family educationFamily educations aims determine its direction. So the aims of family education a

33、re the core, which is the basic reason of the different family education between Chinese and American. Family educations aim is to train a child with some characteristics through family education. Once the aim is determined, education contents and methods should be chosen according to the aims. So w

34、hats the differentaim of Chinese family education and American family education, or we can say the different expectations of the parents in the two countries. American family educations aims are to train the child into a social man, who can deal with all kinds of events and own independent ability.

35、It is not a high expectation. “Social man” is not a utopia idea, but a requirement which is practical and easy to achieve. So America parents have a relaxed attitude to educate their children. They are good at finding out the active parts from their childrens individuality. And the children can find

36、 their value from family education. In fact, this kind of education can achieve good results. According to this aim, they can train their childrens independent ability. Lets see American children in different periods. When they are still a baby, they sleep alone; when they can walk by themselves, th

37、ey seldom ask parents for help; when they grow up, they own their rooms and they should clean the rooms by themselves; they do what they can do from childhood to make money. For example, they do house cleaning, be a baby sitter, send newspapers; when they go to senior middle school or university, th

38、ey do part-time jobs to make money for the cost of living.By comparison, Chinese family educations aim is to train the child into a talent, who has a bright future. A bright future means to get a good job and to lead a simple life all their life time. First, this aim is high and full of utility. It

39、is hard to achieve, because “having a bright future” is not an ordinary aim. Because of the aim, Chinese parents especially concern about childrens study achievements. Their only requirement is that their children can concentrate all the attentions on study. At the same time, they ignore their child

40、rens extraordinary abilities, damage their imaginations. At the end, parents would kill the talents before the children become qualified persons. Although Chinese children study hard, and get great achievements. They lack of abilities to suit this society. Sometimes, parents expectation would come t

41、o nothing.Conclusion We can know from this article that cultural is really different between the China and Western. There still exist various differences between China and the Western cultures. But with the development of cultural communication between China and the west, along with the strengthenin

42、g of communication between China and the west, China has imported various kinds of western cultural. This marks a new western culture exchanges and infiltration.
