1、AbstractThe number of minority students who have been educated by Chinese is increasing year by year. Compared with the students of Han nationality, English learning of minority students has its own distinct character. Last term when I taught in No. 4 middle School in Huocheng City, I found there ar

2、e 50% minority students, in this school, but in the process of teaching, few teachers pay attention to the different characteristics of the minority students. The result is that most minority students have poor ability in English; I did a lot of practice and analysis, and looked up some information.

3、 This article will focus on English learning of Uygur nationality and Kazak nationality students, in order to analyze characteristics which exist in the process of English learning of minority students. Finally, this paper will put forward the way to overcome these factors and improve their English

4、ability.Key words: the students of minority nationality; English learning; characteristics 摘要近年来,伊犁地区接受汉语言授课的少数民族学生,逐年增加,但与汉族学生相比,少数民族学生的英语学习具有鲜明的个性。笔者在霍城县第四中学支教的过程中发现,在汉校中少数民族学生的比例大约占到50%,但在教学过程中,很少有教师注意少数民族学生的特殊性,从而使大多数少数民族学生英语成绩相对落后。笔者通过大量的实践,调查分析,查阅了大量的资料。本文主要以维吾尔族和哈萨克族学生为例,分析了少数民族学生英语学习过程中所具有的特

Knowledge of English is necessary for scientific and technological development and to contribute to the developme

Knowledge of technological innovation is based on learning foreign languages well, especially learning English well. 2.2 Demands of the Information Age Nowadays, science technological are developing rapidly and information is changed in the rapidly sp

14、eech. Computers make access to information changed. Intellectuals should have ability to get information from internet. It is inevitable for English to become an important communication to tool in the era of internet. Only when having the ability to get information by means of English, intellectuals

15、 may develop continuously and have life-long education. Therefore, it is important for minority students to learning a foreign language in order to meet the demands of the information era in the period of found a mental education.2.3 Learning English can help students cultivate their potential and f

16、rom good quality as well as good will Children have language learning unparalleled advantages over adults. For the one hand, they are eager to learning English and have the ability to imitate and memorize what they learned. For the other hand, they are many differences between Chinese and English in

17、 the respects of pronunciation, vocabulary and literature. So students in China must do more oral exercises without fear of mistakes and fight against the tendency to forget. Therefore, in the process of learning we aim at cultivate the spirit of fearing no difficulties in order to create good psych

18、ological quality. Besides, learning to due with cultural differences can help students cultivate the open mined quality and the spirit of commutate and cooperate with others. 3. Introduction With entrance into WTO, we open the door to the world gradually. The cooperation with other countries in the

19、politics, economy and culture are frequent. The important of learning English are becoming more and more foregrounding. Besides, the large scale development of west China makes the Weston regions more active. In The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region minority nationality plays an important role in the

20、 development of peoples cultural quality and society. In order to improve the peoples cultural quality and make the aims of western development come true, we really need to improve the English learning efficiently. However, minority nationality students have some difficulties in learning English due

21、 to the negative impacts of history, economy, culture, environment and psychology. It is necessarily to analyze the current situation and put flowered the improve English ability. 4.0 Problems existing in the process of English teaching of minority students4.1 Starting to learn late and weak foundat

22、ionDue to the undeveloped economy、 lack of teachers and poor condition of facilities, minority students were educated late. Compared with students of Han nationality .As a result, there intellectual development lags behind. They started to learn English very late .Before entering into junior middle

23、school, they just learned Chinese with out education in the kindergarten .But students of Han nationality are different, English learning has been paid special attention for many years .Owing to good condition of teachers and excellent facilities .Many students of Han nationality started to learn En

24、glish when they went to primary school even kindergarten.4.2 The completing of language acquisition increases because of learning there languages at the same times.Minority students learned their mother tongue when they were born and had been equipped with the thinking and expression of their mother

25、 tongue, before entering into primary school and learn English when they studied in junior middle school .Therefore, mother tongue is the first language, Chinese is the second language and English is the third language for them. Multilingual teaching has made students learning process, the cognitive

26、 patterns, the changing of language and the ability of acceptance complex. For example, minority students get used to communicating and thinking with their own mother tongue .They often understand the English by means of Chinese ,which are acquired by translating their mother tongue .There for ,the

27、process of understanding English is mother tongueChinese English .Compared with students of Han nationality, students of Han nationality have more than one language conversion link .This influences their comprehension ability and difficulties when they are learning English .So they need to make grea

28、t effort to study English.4.3Psychological barriers in the course of learning English for minority students4.3.1 Psychological anxiety, tenseness Because of restrictions of minority students Chinese level, their pressure of learning English is higher than that of students of Han nationality .On the

29、one hand ,English basic is weak .For another hand ,schools teaching contents are far from the actual situation of students .Whats more ,teaching methods are monotonous and boring .These factors increase psychological pressure of minority students. As a result, many students have a heavy burden. They

30、 are fear of being asked by teachers and cant pay their attention to their English learning in the class .Practice shoes that anxiety may cause nervousness and fear ,which affect minority students concentration on learning English .Therefore ,the energy which is used to think and memorize what they

31、have learned is relatively reduced. Meanwhile, storage and output of language are reduced, which have bad impact on improving the English performance of minority students.4.3.2 Lack of self-confidence and a serious inferiority complexPsychology thinks that inferiority complex refers to bad adaptabil

32、ity felt by individual after being compared with others ,as a result ,they have felling of incompetence ,weakness, depression and other psychological imbalance. Because of inferiority to others in some aspect or several aspects. With the development of our countrys economy, politics and culture, the

33、 living condition and social relationship in the regions of minority group have being considerably changed. The students of minority groups are psychologically shocked by the great change of society. In addition, living in multi-cultural society, minority students often have ideological confusion an

34、d loss, which cause psychological conflict. Affected by unhealthy tendencies in society and the impact of the wrong values, minority students have the felling of inferiority to others as a result of bad living conditions and bad behaviors on the study. Whats more, being defeated by the failure in th

35、e English examinations and not finding the right approach to learning, students of minority groups lack self-confidence and have inferiority complex. Practice has proved that the self-confidence of students, temperament, personality and other non-intellectual psychological factors. After having many

36、 failures, they often think that they are not excellent when compared with others in the respects self-evaluation and that there are not good at learning English. At the mercy of negative psychology, some students dont dare to express themselves in the class and often keep silence and avoid being as

37、ked by teachers. They are not good at asking questions that they dont understand. Meanwhile, they dont have ability to communicate with classmate and teachers as they wish, the bad results is that inferiority complex become more and more serious, which lead to lack self-confidence and perseverance t

38、o overcome the difficulty with the study. 4.3.3 Weak will for learning Psychology believes that the will is the stage of ones mind which is produced for achieving certain goals and that the will is also psychological process in which people consciously fix goals and make them controlled in accordanc

39、e with their goals. We can say that will is peculiar psychological. For the students, the quality of their strong will embodies in making great efforts to eliminate all kinds of outside interference and the negative impact of your own. Strong will also embody in overcoming all kinds of difficulties

40、in learning, studying in hard to achieve the ultimate aim to acquire the knowledge. English, as a language is hard to grasp, as a result of English complexity. This requires students to have a strong will and perseverance quality rather than Because accumulation of vocabulary sentence patterns and f

41、lexible usage of grammatical knowledge need to be perceived and memorized repeat for the long term in order to master them. On the contrary a large proportion of minority students lack corresponding quality of strong will and perseverance. 5.0 The solution to the problems in minority English teachin

42、g 5.1 Make the foundation consolidate, step by step, to improve the students ability rapidly Minority students receive the education at the old age, so they have a poor condition. However, that doesnt mean they are not clever. That is because their intelligent doesnt be development at the normal sta

43、ge. In fact, they have ability of learning English; whats more, they live in hard environment and have developed the spirit of the hard-working. Therefore, as long as we carefully study and analyze correctly to take appropriate teaching methods, they will be able to show their potential and make great progress in a short time.
