This course is like a window, through which we can have a look of common law legal system.In addition, in the class, we
3、have learned some skills for doing presentation and writing abstract and so on.Solving puzzles about judicial systemTo be honest, before taking the legal English class, I felt confused about the judicial system in America. I think the have complicated court system. Finally, the course provides me wi
4、th a clear picture about American judicial system. I have learned America has two parallel court systems. The federal courts and the state courts are an independent coordinate system authorized by the United States constitution. The federal courts are not superior to the state courts.Before learning
5、 legal English, I think the remedy system in America is superior to china, because they are based on three-tiered model. For the litigant, they have more chance to appeal and justify themselves. After learning the class, I got to know that not all civil appalls can be reviewed by the United States s
6、upreme court. If a federal constitutional question is involved the decision of the state Supreme Court may be reviewed by the united state court.Making presentation skill With the wide using of computer techniques, making presentation is critical, especially when we want to demonstrate something. Us
7、ing PowerPoint can help us build a clear structure of our speech and attract audiences attention. You should have a positive attitude to contact with your audiences and make them follow your thinking. In the class, our teacher told us “six” principle. You should limit your words to less than six wor
8、ds to less than in every line and there are less than six lines in one PPT. In this way, you can avoid tedious and long contents. It is vital to explain the key words form time to time.Disadvantages of the class ParticipationArranging a group of students to prepare and make presentation is a good ch
9、ance to demonstrate their ideas and skills. However, what I have seen is just one student to make presentation. I cant say other members in their teams didnt brainstorm and propose ideas, but the participation in giving speech is limited. Understanding contentsAs far as Im concerned, some essays in
10、the textbook are too complicated to translate into Chinese since there are many confusing sentences structure and professional words. 11、glish and maritime English well is by no means an easy job. It rely on efforts form us. The following suggestions are based on my own experience and view.Firstly, I hope Ms Yu give us a brief introduction about the lesson and provide some related knowledge before the class. By doing so, we can learn
12、 quickly and have a clear mind.Secondly, if the contents in the PPT have some translation, it will be better for us to concentrate. Because when we look at the PPT and find new words, we may look them up in digital dictionary and distract our attention in listening to the teacher.Thirdly, as for enc
13、ouraging more students to make presentation instead of only one, I think Ms Yu can ask the team members to be responsible for different parts in presentation.Legal English course is hard but interesting. Thanks to the patient teaching and hard working form Ms Yu, we have learned much. I hope next term we can learn more form the course not only about legal knowledge, but also some skills to use it.
