12、o supersede(inpart)AS 35661988,Screws Self-drilling Forthebuildingand construction industries.The objective of this Standard is to provide manufacturers and users with the requirements for the corrosion resistance of self-drilling screws used in the building and construction industries.This Standard

13、 is Part 2 of a two-part series dealing with self-drilling screws for the building and construction industries. Part 1 specifies general requirements and the mechanical properties for self-drilling screws.This edition introduces an additional corrosion resistance class intended to meet the requireme

14、nts for use in coastal areas and specifies a procedure for demonstration of corrosion resistance by exposure at an outdoor test site.The term normative has been used in this Standard to define the application of the appendix to which it applies. 26、definitions below apply.3.1 Local thicknessThe mean of the coating thickness measurements, of which a specified number is made within a reference area.3.2 Minimum local thicknessThe lowest value of the local thickness found on the significant surface of a single article.3.3 Reference areaThe area wi

27、thin which a specified number of single coating thickness measurements is required to be made.NOTE: For small items the reference area may be the whole of the significant surface.3.4 Significant surfaceThe part of the article covered or to be covered by the coating and for which the coating is essen

28、tial for serviceability or appearance, or both and where the coating is required to meet all the specified requirements.3.5 Significant surface of screwThe head and undriven shank.4 CLASSIFICATION AND DESIGNATIONThe corrosion resistance of self-drilling screws shall be classified by the corrosivity

32、N RESISTANCE5.1 Class 1Class 1 corrosion resistant screws shall comply with one of the following requirements:(a)Accelerated testing When Class 1 corrosion resistant self-drilling screws are prepared in accordance with Appendix A and tested in a neutral salt spray in accordance with AS 2331.3.1 for

33、72 h red rust shall not be present over more than5 percent of the significant areas of the screws and there shall be no blistering of the coating.(b)Zinc and zinc-tin coated screws The metallic coating of zinc and zinc-tin coated Class 1 corrosion resistant screws shall be in accordance with Table 2

34、. The local thickness of the metallic coating shall be determined in accordance with AS 2331.1.3 or AS 2331.1.4 and the minimum local coating thickness shall be determined from three local thickness measurements made on the reference surface shown in Figure 1.5.2 Class 2Class 2 corrosion resistant s

35、crews shall comply with one of the following requirements:(a)Accelerated testing When Class 2 corrosion resistant self-drilling screws are prepared in accordance with Appendix A and tested as follows red rust shall not be present over more than 5 percent of the significant surfaces of the screws and

36、 there shall be no blistering of the coating:(i)In a neutral salt spray in accordance with AS 2331.3.1 for 240 h.(ii)In a condensing atmosphere containing sulfur dioxide at level KFW 2.0S in accordance with DIN 50018 for 5 cycles.(iii)The assessment of the level of rusting shall be conducted visuall

37、y so that no doubt can exist that corrosion of the steel substrate is well established.(b)Zinc and zinc-tin-coated screwsThe metallic coating of zinc and zinc-tin coated Class 2 corrosion resistant screws shall be in accordance with Table 2. The local thickness of the metallic coating shall be deter
