Gone are the days when kids of all ages would run outside to play after school or spend their weekends in nature with friends and families. There is no doubt that spending time in nature is good for them both mentally and physica
5、lly. The fresh air and the sunlight are among the greatest benefits. For example, with more exposure to natural sunlight, their moods can be elevated.,Lessons from the Sea,In-depth Reading,1 When I first moved here, I was just a kid. The beach was so magical back then, and all I wanted to do was to
6、make sandcastles and splash about in the water. As I grew into a teen, it became “uncool” to do such things; instead, it was more acceptable to sunbathe because our looks were all we cared about during those years. It was in those times that I felt most self-conscious wearing a bikini, and even thou
7、gh I was not totally comfortable, it was worse not to wear one when everyone else did. Eventually, we grew up, built some self-confidence and sunbathing and bikini days became barbecues, bonfires and drinks on the beach with friends.2 Ive learned that as we grow up, our outlook on even the same thin
8、g changes over time. Everything is in constant flux; nothing stays the same for ever, especially ourselves.,In-depth Reading,3 From the first time I saw it until now, and every time in between, Ive never grown tired of looking at the great blue sea melt into the horizon in the distance. Ive never gr
9、own tired of watching the sunset or sunrise change the colour of the sky, painting it all shades of pinks, purples and oranges. Ive never not felt soothed by the feeling of sand between my toes or the sound of the waves washing onto the shore. Part of the reason why I love meditation so much is that
10、 I have such a great place to do it.4 Ive learned that Mother Nature is so, so beautiful.5 On that note, theres nothing worse than spoiling all that because of pollution. If you cant be bothered to throw away your rubbish in bins just a few metres away, then dont bother coming to the beach at all. A
11、lso, although there arent any visible factories in the area, on some days, the sea looks more green or grey than on other days because of junk being thrown into it downstream. And although I still think it looks beautiful, it is never the clear blue kind of sea you see in Brochures.,In-depth Reading
12、,6 Ive learned that if people werent so selfish, we would all be living in a much better world that would benefit everyone.7 Another thing the beach has helped me do is to get fit by running and cycling. I know not everybody lives by the beach, but I think that getting outside is very important when
13、 growing up. I was actually born in the city, but I still learned to ride a bike outdoors in the street. We spend so many of our days trapped indoors that I think it would be good for everyone to try to go outdoors as much as they can. Also, I find the sea air quite healing, and perhaps thats part o
14、f the reason why I almost never get sick (knock on wood).8 Ive learned that fresh air is a gift that we should always be grateful for.,In-depth Reading,9 Every day, the sun never fails to rise and set. The tide never fails to come in and go out. The birds never fail to sing every morning. There are
15、some things that will never change (for a few million years at least), which shouldnt be surprising except that I didnt realize life will go on without me. Of course nothing would stop just for me, but I remember coming back to the beach for the first time in a long while and thinking “Its all still
16、 the same.” Although it was a little upsetting at first, I came to think of it as a reassuring thing that I can rely on at least some parts of my life to stay just like they were when I was a kid.10 I learned that the familiar sound, smell and feel of the beach mean it will always be my home.,In-dep
