1、AbstractInterest is a useful auxiliary in English teaching and learning. It is a kind of internal motivation to push students studies. Teachers need to try every way to attract students to the teaching activities and make the students experience that English-learning is a kind of interest. That will
2、 help to stimulate the enthusiasm and motivation of students and improve the teaching quality. This thesis is talking some methods to improve students interest in English learning. It is divided into three parts: build a harmonious relationship with the student; organize effective lessons and design
3、 diversity of homework. Only if students interest in English-learning improved can students ability of English-learning enhance, which will makes the teaching vivid, impressive and easy.Key Words: interest; English-learning; improve 摘要兴趣对英语的教与学有很大的帮助。它是学生学好英语的内在动力。教师要想方设法把学生吸引到教学活动中,让学生体会到学习英语是一种乐趣,
4、才能调动学生的积极性和主动性,从而提高教学质量。本文主要讨论如何提高学生学习英语的兴趣。分为以下三部分:建立和谐师生关系,有效组织课堂和设计多种多样的作业。只有提高学生学习英语的兴趣才能提高他们学习英语的能力,让英语课堂生动,深刻和轻松。关键词:兴趣;英语学习;提高IntroductionEnglish teaching is not a piece of easy work. Especially, many students are losing their interest and showing negative attitude towards English learning. T
5、eachers are always complaining that it is hard to improve students scores and the students are too lazy to learn the words, recite the dialogues and finish the exercises. To some degree, the effective way to make the English teaching and learning go smoothly is to improve students interest in Englis
6、h learning. Einstein once said “Interest is the best teacher.” Interest is a kind of direct motivation to push students studies. That means interest plays an important part in English learning. As to the teacher, it is worth-while to improve students interest. It can make the students concentrateonw
7、hat they are learningandthink actively. English learning is quite different from other subjects learning. It is a foreign language and there is not a good environment for them to learn. Relatively speaking, English learning is rather dull. Especially learning so many new words by heart is a hard nut
8、 to crack. As a result, alot of students are afraid of it. So it is teachers duty to motivate them to learn actively. Teachers should spare no efforts to arouse the students interest. 1. Build a Harmonious Relationship with the StudentsThere is an old Chinese saying, “If only the students are closed
9、 to teacher, they would love the teachers lesson.” In other words, when the students like and cling to the teacher, they will love the subject that the teacher teaches. Therefore, to carry out teaching and learning smoothly, teachers should build a harmonious relationship with the students. All of t
10、he students are equal and they have the same right to accept education al school. So teachers should tread each student equally and have to make the students feel that they are as important as any other students in teachers eyes. Moreover, teachers win dignity and respect from the students. Meanwhil
11、e teachers also need to make friends with the students equally, communicate with them and know them well with both life and study. It is an annoying thing that talking about the study but nothing. Teachers should spare an eye on students life, too. A good study cant be apart from a steady life. When
12、 the students feel it glad to talk with the teacher, they will love to listen to the lesson. Especially, English need to make dialogues. When teachers and students are closed enough, they will find it easy to talk with their teacher easily. Besides, giving the students more praise than criticism wil
13、l win surprise harvest. Praise helps students make confident. Once the students build confidence in one subject, would they be interested in it. Teacher should give more encouragement and praise to the students rather than some strict and cold words on them. When they make a little progress, praised
14、 words can be given to them, such as, “ Good job”, “Well done”, “ You are clever”, “Wonderful.”, or give big hands for them. They will feel great and will make greater effort in it.2. Organize Effective LessonsThe great part of English learning in primary school is having class,because students in y
15、oung age are poor in learning by themselves. They rely on the teacher to leading them to the English world. As a result, it is teachers responsibility to give effective class. To organize an effective English class, teachers need to make some creation basing on students English level, character, int
16、erest and understanding. 2.1 Design Wonderful LessonsPreparing work goes before effective class. Teachers have to prepare the lesson well is beyond doubt. A good preparation bases on the teaching material as well as the students. Teachers should learn the teaching materials thoroughly and understand
17、 the students who are going to be given lesson well. Besides, a clear teaching procedure must be borne in mind. That means teachers need to be familiar with the clues and make sure that the class will be carried out step by step. A good lesson not only means the students grasp the knowledge well but
18、 learn it in an easy and vivid way. Then it asks for the teachers to create some effective methods to present the lesson and useful ways to consolidate it. 19、glish-learning AtmosphereEnglish is a foreign language. Students have little chance to hear and say it out of class. As far as the English learning in primary school is concerned, most of the students rely on the teacher lead them to the English world. Language learning can not go without atmosphere
20、. During the class, teachers should create English-learning atmosphere, which helps students learn English easily. Using English classroom language as much as possibly is a common way. It will offer the students the greatest chance to hear English. With the limitation of students vocabulary, teacher
21、s have to simplify the teaching language. The body language helps a lot. Teachers would use facial expressions and body movement to make the student get the meaning easily. They will possibly find it interesting and imitate the teachers tone and facial expressions. That will make the students immers
22、e themselves in the English world and help to make the class vividly.Besides, at the time of learning sentences and dialogue, teachers need to create some real conditions that close to life, which can reduce the difficulty and arouse students interest. Learning have a relative relationship with life
23、. So teacher can make some vivid circumstance, and encourage students to imitate the example to create a real show. Giving a lesson in Pep Book5 unit3 What would you like? It is a great idea to create a canteen with waiters or waitresses and customers. Then both sides can practice the sentences stru
24、ctures, “What would you like? Id like” in a vivid atmosphere.Furthermore, it is widely acknowledged by many English teachers that playing games is a useful method in English lessons. It not only arouse students interest but also practice the language points in a relax ways. There is no need to expla
25、in it in details.Lastly, Songs, according to many scholars, can be an efficient instrument in a foreign language teaching. English songs play a great role in motivating students to learn English. They can be used not only for purposeful language practice, but also for motivating students interests a
26、nd enhancing students involvement in learning English. So teachers can try to use songs in their English classes.3. Design Diversity of HomeworkHomework plays an important part in English learning. It can help the students consolidate the lessons that learnt in class. It is reasonable for teachers t
27、o design homework for students. However, all the students are not willing to do homework. Some of them find this or that excuse to escape from doing homework. I believe that every teacher has ever come across that some students dont hand in their homework. Few of us find some clever means to make th
28、e student totally willing to finish the homework. Monotonous homework may contribute to students interest in English learning declined. Teachers had better to design different kinds of homework for students. Copy the letters, words and phrases day after day is not a wise ways for students to learn E
29、nglish. At the time the students begin to learn the 26 letters. Of course, they have to copy the letters again and again. But we also can offer another kind of interesting and easy homework. Like collecting words, signs which contain a certain letter. They can show and share with classmates and teac
30、her. And the teacher can offer some little prize for the winner. In another way, teachers can ask the students to make a keyboard with the right written form. It can help the students distinguish the printed form from written form. When the students have to learn verb phrase by heart, they can make
31、a booklet with painting and phrases or sentence in it. Teachers can put up the beautiful ones in the classroom. Another type of homework is for practicing listening and speaking English. In common case, teacher will ask the students to listen to the tape and read the lesson. But few students do read
32、 and remember the lesson well. We emphasize again and again that English is a kind of language. We learn just for saying. Why not design a kind of homework that each student says one sentence to the teacher every day. It could be a greeting or question and get an answer from the teacher, or a declar
33、ative sentence to tell a thing or a truth. This must be more interesting and practical than read out the dialogues by times. The students may be excited that they can use English to talk with the teacher. If condition permit, teacher can demand the students to watch Disney cartoons to remember some
34、short and easy dialogues as much as possible and share with the class. Moreover, some English puzzles and crosswords can be introduced to the students. Designing novel types of homework for students doesnt mean that teachers have to discard the traditional homework, like copy and reading. We just ad
35、d some new elements to the monotonous English homework and mean to stimulate students interest in English learning. Moreover, we also can offer several types of homework in different level to meet different students need. Students make a free choose according to their own ability. At the same time t
36、eachers should encourage students to finish as much as possible. In this way, homework not only helps the students to consolidate the knowledge that learnt in class, but also stimulates their interest in English.ConclusionGenerally speaking, interest is a great auxiliary in English teaching and lear
37、ning. It is worth the trouble to arouse students interest in English learning. This thesis only talks some superficial ways to improve students interest in English learning. Teachers should create some appropriate teaching procedures, atmosphere, conditions, and design homework different from school to school and from student to student so that students interest can be stimulated. All these work mainly means to improve the efficiency of English teaching and enhance students English learning.
