I would look out the windows for hours on end at the completely unspoiled plains, as if humans had never touched it. It took seven consecutive days and nights on trains to get from Moscow to Beijing, each day

14、spent gazing out the windows for hours as the Siberian plains swept by. Sometimes, I wouldnt see a village or a human being for 10 hours. Later in my journey, it took 22 days on a cargo freighter to get from New Zealand through the Panama Canal and back to Philadelphia, to finish my round-the-world

15、adventure. It turned out that travelling with no reservations was far less difficult than I had imagined. Pulling into a city on a bus with a backpack, looking in a guidebook for a few suggestions of accommodations, and then finding an empty room was never much of a problem anywhere. It also kept me

Mr. Brown says this is a common human error. But, he says, what makes the problem worse has to do with some of the shortcomings,

38、 or failures, of GPS equipment. Barry Brown: “One problem with a lot of the GPS units is they have a very small screen and they just tell you the next turn. Because they just give you the next turn, sometimes that means that it is not really giving you the overview that you would need to know that i

39、ts going to the wrong place. ”Barry Brown once worked on a project with Eric Laurier from the University of Edinburgh. The two men studied the effects of GPS devices on driving by placing cameras in peoples cars. They wrote a paper based on their research. It is called “The Normal, Natural Troubles

40、of Driving with GPS”. It lists several areas where GPS systems can cause confusion for drivers. These include maps that are outdated, incorrect or difficult to understand.
